On this calc: http://lenni.me/edd/
using an ERD of 608 (http://www.londonfgss.com/thread5062.html)
I'm getting 296.43 for the rear, and 293.2 for the front... not far off the 292 posted earlier...
What sort of margin for error is there on spoke length?

Hello, can't forum search from phone so posting new topic - links to existing threads or answers would be great ta.
On one gold deep flange hubs arrived today, anyone got the technical data to punch into spoke calc, or can help with spoke length to go on open sport rims, standard 3 cross?
Also, dishing on rear will be zero - i.e. Centred - i think as it's double sided hub... is that correct?
Ta.

Anyone know anything about Hetchins frames? My old man picked up something that looks very much like a magnum opus. Looks like phase 1 lugs, but no mention of Tottenham or Southend on the badge....just Hetchins Cycles England. Also no magnum opus on the toptube. It's blue with fairground script Hetchins logos and curly stays, Period campag hubs (with wingnuts) and weinman rims.
Looks maybe too big for me, but may attempt a geared resto anyway. Will try and take some photos next time I go over and see him.
Also just grabbed a Raleigh Royal 531 to build up for me as a good distance fixed, just need cranks / bars / wheels to get done....any 27inchers kicking about onsite?
You could contact Coventry Transport Museum - they might have some Hetchins info in the archives that could help. They have a lovely Hetchins on display, it's got a big dink in the top tube otherwise I'd be trying to ride it away*
*not really.

Currently listening to Portishead - 'Third'.
I can safely say it's a steaming turd of the musical variety, and possibly the biggest disappointment I've had all year. It is truly awful, and am tempted to get in touch with Geoff Barrow and ask for my money back - even though I got it off a torrent. I think anyone who listens to this should actually be paid compensation - it's a complete and utter waste of time. I'd rather go urinal diving at the Glastonbury festival than have to listen to this again.
Agreed. Although I've never been urinal diving and prefer to keep it that way.
Currently listening to Bristol's current finest:

How much load does the HS locknut take?
Working on my Claud Butler frame, the old 105 headset cups were damaged, plus the very top thread on the fork had been damaged also so needed cutting down a tiny bit. I took to the LBS to cut down and swap on an unused Campag Mirage hs I have knocking about.
The 105 must be (is infact - by appx 5mm) lower profile, as there was plenty of thread for the locknut to go on - even allowing for the bit to be chopped - however with the mirage it's only got half a turn to tighten with the washer in place, or about a turn and a half if I don't bother with the washer and tighten with 2 hs spanners.
My preference is to keep the washer on, as it makes tightening it a lot less of a fiddle, however at half a turn to tighten I'm worried I could have a big off when I start riding this if it lets go due to the forces on it?
If it's not suitable, I'll see if I can get a like for like 105 headset to put back on, this is gonna hit the pocket though.
Whadyall reckon?

No washer, no locknut

Some progress on the drivetrain... still single speed. Should get new pedals on it tomorrow (White flats if I can) and maybe a single chainring at the front, although that'd be bye bye to the nice cranks :(
Serviced the rear hub today, the axle was seriously bent, but the wear lines on the cones says it'd only just happened... gonna have to stop using this bike for work if I want it to last as I shift some weight up to the schools I visit. That's two rear axles across two bikes I've killed due to weight this year...
Anyway, much nicer than the 5spd block that was on before...

Was interesting, a nice mix of folks on a variety of bikes... That Stingray was pretty random!
Liked the way it finished at a boozer, though i didn't stay long - took my friend to chez jules for some top tucker.
Think i then saw fin's bike again outside the victoria, didn't hang about long there as there's no longer a midnight train to Cov by the looks of it :(
