Don't want to hijack, but if the wheel and tyre isn't suitable for Vince, can I register interest in it? I've just bought a Lo Pro frame with tubular 650c wheel and really want a clincher. Long-term I'm looking out for a 650c Vento to match the rear 700c Vento I have, but a cheap 650c would be ideal for now.

I've just put a new chain on and am experiencing what would best be described as a fine vibration through the pedals. The chain is the same brand but a different model to the last one.
Is this to be expected as the old chain and cogs will have presumably worn to each other or should I be worried?
Cheers.Fine vibration can mean you've simply got the chain too tight - or, if the chainring is slightly off centre on the spider you can get a tight spot on the chain. Test the chain tension with the pedals at different positions to rule this out.

vice
clamp the cog and turn the wheel right out near the edges / holding rim ... huge leverage / much more torque
heat cog with blow torch different metals expand at different rates
just pray the the hub doesn't expand faster than the cog otherwise it'll just tighten even more !! DOH !Coefficient of thermal expansion for aluminium is higher than steel, so if you heat up the cog, the heat transfers to the hub and it expands more than the cog so tightening it. The only benefit heating has is you need to break down the loctite used on the cog if you have a Fuji Track!
As previously suggested, wrap a chain round the cog, hold in a large vice and turn the rim. It will come off. If you're happy to sacrifice the cog, you can beat it off with a hammer and chisel. Both methods work, I've tested them!

Managed to get myself a place on this one today:

Booking opened at midday and all 800 places gone in under 5 hours. Anyone here done it before?

if you are going to convert it and make it your pride and joy, make it look like you want.
will you ever be tempted to restore it to its geared glory? if not strip away...
It's never going to be restored to geared glory... I like the idea of strip away - just want to be sure I'm not going to destroy part of Raleigh's rich history with one swipe of an angle grinder!

Seems to get the links working. Doesn't do anything about the design though... that stays verrrrry red :-)

Thanks dr.fast - look forward to hearing from you if you'd like to split. I'd be very interested in the shifters, the brakes & levers plus front and rear mechs.
