even though he could well have been older, i think my feeling was patronisingly enjoying the folly of youth.
doesn't everyone hit that phase at some point? once you feel a little more assured on your bike. sure, now i'm quite austere (especially in traffic), but i defo had a time where i was a bit twatty.

fairly sure i saw this person too. fishtailing everywhere. he definitely noticed me laughing as we passed each other. as unnecessary as it was, it did cheer me up.

it's the shop's responsibility. when they buy in the vans they agree to take returns responsibility (legal and practical). some good brands sort it out directly to be nice, but it is the shop's issue.
your statutory rights mean that the product needs to be fit for purpose. regardless of their returns policy, the stat rights supersede. and as it's under 6 months, the legal onus is on them to disprove your claim.

trying my hardest to remember my physics, because altho the law you're thinking of is relevant, i don't think it's the only consideration...
the traction between your tyre and the road is dynamic, and the max coefficient of friction can occur at any point where the two surfaces meet. the greater the area, the higher likelihood of maximum traction. so fat tyres do give you a higher chance of better grip. altho strictly speaking you're right in absolute terms, just not including probability.
and then there is the instance where the max frictional force is higher than the structural integrity of the rubber in contact with the ground, causing the tyre to tear. i'm not sure whether this favours skinny or fat tyres. skinny are normally higher pressure, so the rubber is less likely to tear. fat have more rubber to tear.

this morning 8:40-ish while waiting at a red light red on old street / curtain rd I spotted a chap in cap and shades on a large blue frame with Alfina fork and black risers, riding no hands in the middle of the road.
as he slowly passed me and the other stationary bikes he threw a look of utter contempt to every rider at the lights, he then RLJ'd passed an on coming car and pulled a one handed wheelie down the middle of the empty road!
the shape of this cut a perfect V in the distance, like he was telling us all to fuck off!
I felt like I had just been slapped in the face!I'm sure ive seen this guy and bike couriering in soho, although this morning he didn't look like he had a radio etc. if you're on here mate you got the skills! and a very sexy looking front wheel, whatever it is!
once, i was just trackstanding at some lights. he comes next to me. trackstands, but with one hand. being a child, i then go to one hand also. he then sits up, no handed. i reciprocate. he then does a backwards circle, and goes up on his back wheel and back down. i just replied, 'yep, fair enough'.
although definitely a twat. i've never seen anyone that comes near to what he can do. but that could be because most people don't flout it relentlessly.

sorry to hear. but is tyre width a thing about fixed? apart from that people generally ride 23s or whatever. but so do plenty of freds.
i mean, they're not for me, but you can ride fixed with big fat tyres if you dislike skinny ones. certain frames have clearance for like 35 right? and sure, more rubber on the ground means more grip.
but as for fixed, i'd argue that you get a better feel over rear wheel traction, and it helps you avoid some spills.

been a while since i've seen it, but did it have decalled tub deep section rims?... campag pista perhaps.
saw it in condor downstairs last summer waiting for the owner to collect. unbelievably nice.
