Amsterdam mara is highly recommended - fast, flat course, decent support, great weather, lovely city, plenty of worthwhile wind-down activities available.

Would like to do Greensands, but doing Amsterdam Mara this weekend - with my 63 yr old joints. Did 91 miles running last week - cramming as hadn't bothered training - cramming works for running, right?

Rotherhithe's probably safer in heavy traffic - it's generally going at bike speed. And there's a pavement to cycle on.

Arrived late so didn't kick off to 9.30 after haring round Hackney trying to find anyone who loooked like they knew where to go, but made decent pace and got there just before sunrise. Great fun, lots more fixies than I expected (I rode geared), some of whom hit a serious pace. The sight of an endless line of red rear lights through the night warms the cockles.
TT'ing the last 20 miles or so into Dunwich with a few other speedy guys was exhilarating, if not ideal prep for the cycle back. c.250 miles total, but don't feel too bad. Must sleep now tho, must sleep lots.

I've seen this frame in the flesh - belongs to a yankee pro Ironman who did IM China a few years ago - he was parked by me in transition. fwiw, he was caning it like he stole it when I saw him on the bike leg.

Done it a few times, always on the road. Speed limit is 20, so if you're going at a reasonable pace, you supposedly aren't keeping traffic back. Unfortunately, they don't see it this way, so had to exact the wing mirror tax at the next lights on one twat.

I called a company whose driver buzzed me and within a couple of hours their Chief Exec called me back to apologise profusely, tell me he'd spoken to the driver already and offer me a discount on a mattress.
The company sold mattresses.

fyi - a good solid swipe at normal riding pace can remove the whole mirror and casing from a bendy bus. He then can't continue his journey. Learned.
