Ex-harefieldite here. Worked at Deluxe Labs up until recently. Still pop up there every now and again.
Nice countryside for cycling, shame about the locals. Had regular abuse from the moped-pikeys.
Aye, the locals have a certain inbred look to them. They are much improved, visually, by wearing their helmets.
As you said- nice for cycling though. Some good short runs out towards Uxbridge then back in via Ickenham/Ruisplip or the other way out Rickmansworth/Maple Cross/Denham. Lots of nice longer runs out Amersham and/or Beconsfield direction too.
Can be a bit hilly though if you're feeling lazy (as I
oftenalways am). -
Smart move getting those hubs.
Chain half-links, or even a half-link chain (hubjub.com sell both, as should your local bike shop) will help.
If your going for 'real' pedals (rather than SPDs etc) and worried about pedal strike then MKS GR9s are really narrow. I run them in a fixed conversion for this reason and I really like 'em.
Thanks.
It would be even smarter if the bloody hub (plus cranks/cog/lockring) would turn up grrrrr. It's 2 weeks since I ordered them. The delay wasn't a problem but I've since finished the bike apart from building the back wheel/drivetrain so this is holding me up now. :(
I got a KMC chain and half-link from here
Pedals are Shimano M324 SPD/cage combo types. Not sure if they're ideal (?) but even if not they'll do until I get going. I've got SPD-SLs on my roadbike but they're more of a cnut to clip into so might not be the best for a first foray into fixed.

I got a 2.4GHz black macbook earlier this year.....a tad disappointed to see I'm out of date already!
I love the OS but am less impressed with the hardware: it's needed a new CD/DVD drive and a new logic board already. Good job my work paid for it or I'd be pretty fekked off.
Rumour has it that if it needs to go back 3 (or is it 4) times in one year they replace it FOC. Maybe if I shake it hard enough it'll turn into a shiny new one?!

Does anyone else's version of Phun look like lots of mouldy battenberg? I have to say its not that phun if you can't see what you're supposed to be doing :(
Any ideas how to fix it?
Are you on a mac? I got that last night when I installed by dragging the phun app only into my applications folder. You need to drag the entire folder- that fixed it for me.

Stronach, it's gonna be hard getting chain tension with that little adjustment... You tried it yet?
The hub I'm waiting on is one of those 'eccentric' jobs where the bolts and axle are offset. Allegedly gives 15mm adjustment. Fingers crossed it should be ok?! But yes, there's not much in the dropouts.

I don't think you got it, 'yam' is fixed gear slang, and in this context platini is trying to chat you up.
its ok, you're new here, you'll catch on soon.
:)I don't suppose I'd be fortunate enought that platini is an extremely well endowed, attractive and loose moraled female with a cute friend and a penchant for 3somes??
Thought not :( eek

^ I doubt you'll have a problem with pedal strike with that clearance...
Welcome BTW, nice Yam.Cheers :)
Yeah- 13" BB. And I've ordered 165mm cranks. ??overkill/overcaution!?
(Aye, the yam's a bit of a peach- I stuck an akrapovic carbon/hex can on and had the carb jets changes and a few other wee mods which liberate a rather healthy 140bhp at the back wheel- keeps a smile/stretched grimace on the face!)

Double n00b here- new to the site and new to fixed (so you can expect a number of stupid and ill informed questions from me).
In fact I'm so new to fixed I'm not even fixed yet. Converting an ex-black 1988 cannondale SM700 mtb. Still waiting on white ind. eno hub, cog and sugino rd crank to arrive. Got all the other bits though. Currently it looks like this ;D
Yeah ok- a bit odd but wtf- I'm having fun making it.
and I look like this....
I live half way up that hill and agree wholeheartedly :D
(going down it to the Coy with a pocket full of beer tokens on a sunny afternoon is much more agreeable)
