It is neither. Believe it or not, cassette hubs are only a recent invention, older hubs worked like modern-day singlespeed hubs.. the "cogs" screwed-on and these containing the bearings, just like today's bmx freewheels. this is still the case with cheap bikes in fact.

I'm looking for quite a rare part, it screws onto a hub and has extra threads to allow a bmx freewheel to sit farther out for a better chainline.

Here is a pic of a similar device, the 'drews adapter'

What I'm trying to do is run SS on an old Ringle MTB hub and need a better chainline.

p.s. pedals not included (they're sh*t anyways) but I can throw in some cheapo flat ones to ride away one :) oh and that's an innertube on the crank arm .. just stops heel rub so they stay mint.

btw, i owned both versions of this bike (the long & short) i had some toe overlap problems with the shorter 'drop bar' model .. my advice would be to go with the 'original' longer model regardless of your bar preference.

nice versatile bike, always attracted compliments from curious cyclists who thought they'd seen everything :)

you can def buy a lighter bike though if you want to keep it as a stripped down speed machine .. but its nice and versatile .. i ran avid bb7 road discs with drop levers brakes .. although cane creek now market a nice 'v brake' drop lever that will work with standard bb7s that IME work a bit better.

I have fo' sale my genesis flyer .. it's about 2 months old and was a full custom build around the (white 08 ) 54cm frame & fork
all components new when built ...

I built this bike to be a versatile single speed road bike (not a fashion accessory) so everything was cherry picked and handbuilt to be lightweight, strong & durable (the front wheel alone would cost you £160 in parts & labour). The bike is a 54cm - which is sold out at genesis for the year by the way! I may be leaving london shortly to join the armed forces .. so I need to put funds towards an mtb for XC racing - hence the reluctant sale after only 2 months :(

Spec is as follows ..

-campagnolo record front / surly flip flop rear hub in open pro rims (fffast!)

-FSA the pig aheadset (tough)

-genesis bars/stem (as specced)

-Shimano Levers (as specced)

-Campy Centaur Brakes with green swisstop pads

-USE Sumo Seatpost (£60 post)

-Fizik Pave saddle (black)

-Race Face Ext. bearing Cadence chainset with TA 46t ring (46:17 gearing)

-Continental G.prix 24c tyres

-17t shimano freewheel (hub can be fixed, i never ran it as such but can provide a sprocket size of your choice if you wish)

Bike is MINTY & fast-as-u-like .. with only a couple of very faint marks on the top-tube & some light insertion marks on the seatpost

I work in a bike shop so be sure everything is well screwed together. The headset/bars/stem/saddle were fitted new yesterday
