Forget this connectedness bollocks. Your growing envy of cooler people doing skids n shit will eventually force your hand...
How's the camera bag treating you, mate?
I can already skid with my hand. Easy peasy.
The camera bag has been like a nagging wife, feeling neglected due to my spending so much time on the bike. Just about right size for what I wanted though, cheers mate.

I'm not sure I like this idea of "getting used to it" - sounds like something piss drinkers would say.
I suspect I will try it on the open road again at some point, but probably later rather than sooner.
you'll enjoy it once you get used to it. now scarper off back to crooked tongues
I'm already there. Two places at once. Like God.

So after my anti-clockwise lap of Richmond Park last night, I decided to try riding back to Wimbledon station on the fixed.
So, flipped the flip-flop over to the flip side (or is it the flip side), and jumped on.
First off, had a bit of trouble getting into my second clip (ride clip + strap) - I'm used to starting off then engaging the second whilst coasting. Trying to catch the pedal and get into the clip was slightly tricking when the pedals won't stop moving.
Once I was in and going, I was fully expecting some sort of epiphany and that my life would be changed forever.
Unfortunately, I hated it. I didn't feel like I was in command of the bike - why should I have to move my legs when going downhill? If I stop at lights, readjusting my pedal position is a faff, not to mention getting back into the pedals again. I love pushing a single gear, but having to push it ALL OF THE TIME? No thanks.
In thought I must have been doing something wrong, judging by the mystic experiences I've heard and read about riding fixed, "feeling more connected", "more pure experience" etc. But maybe I just like coasting too much
Anyone else tried it and loathed it? Am I just a wrongun? Can I be saved?

hi Nes, consider it done. hope youre having fun there in the big MCR, we had a blinding London c.mass the other day, super fun, all sorts of stuff going off, blocked Piccadilly Circus for a mini party, then ushered an electric car through the crowd-classic moment,
Plus some prick in a big fancy car got a talking to when he was caught texting on his phone whilst driving through Hyde Park. He started off angry when challenged then realised there was a few hundred cyclists stopping to see what was going on....

okay, i emailed halfords (who run my work scheme) asking over if they could source the following OTP fixies:
Fuji track
Surly steamroller
Charge plug
Bianchi pistathey said no to the fuji, yes to the charge. they also suggested a pearson touche
hilariously, they have stated that the surly and the bianchi are "track bikes and not suitable for road use". my reply has pointed out that front brake means road legal, i'm waiting for a response.
If you get the Touche, go to Pearson's direct - they will take the Hallford's voucher directly over the counter, meaning you can spec up the bike exactly how you want.
I believe Condor also accept the voucher directly.

My first time on the CM, found that people at the front tended to get away from everybody else quite easily and started corking roads waaay before there was anyone at the junction.
Also thought the route went through too many choke points which just served to string out the group.
Good fun all in all though, pretty good atmosphere save one taxi driver on Strand getting out of his cab and chest bumping someone. Real tough guy....

you need the universal sports alternative feed from cycling fans. (i think the main one has regional restrictions)
English commentary and a very high quality imageYeah, watched the first few stages on Universal, getting round the geo-restrictions using Hotspot Shield. Am at work when it's on in the week so have been downloading stages from usenet and catching up.
Didn't even think about it today, went straight for the Eurosport...

And if you skid the inside you can turn them inside out for re-use.
