I checked: the drive side (from where the shell would meet the cups to the end of the axle) is the same on the shimano 107 as on the 110 so would give exactly the same chainline. I must have been totally kidding myself when I thought switching to the 107 had slightly improved my chainline.

So, Krakow, if you want a 107 you're welcome to mine (only 3 careful owners).

I've got a shimano 107 (runs well, not sure how new it is because it was given to me for free) and a 110 (almost new) and I promised to give one of them away on here ages ago so you can try them out and take the one that fits best, if you like. I'm in E2. Or I can post you one of them for the cost of postage (£2).

dogsballs, is right, the 107 seems assymetrical, I think there is only about 1mm difference between the drive side of the 107 and 110.
EDIT: I wonder if the drive side length is actually the same on both - I'm going to measure them tonight.

I've got a really low quality 1980s nutted front brake that you're welcome to have but, to be honest, I imagine it would look really rubbish on a Mercian and it isn't very effective.

I put a new Shimano 105 on my conversion at the weekend and I had the same problem - the allan key fitting was a couple of millimeters wider that the back hole in the fork. Even on my cheapy bike I wasn't keen to take a file to it but I went for it and it worked really well. It took quite a while but it didn't damage the paintwork at all and the new brake fits really well and works much much better than the old one.

I actually tried a drill first but that didn't feel very clever to gave it up quite quickly and went to the hardware shop and round file for about £3.

cyclebasket.com are cheap for spokes and postage and they have a spoke length chart for zenith on mavic open pro/sport.

Yeah, I did my first one at the weekend as well and now i'm itching to needlessly replace my front wheel.

It took me about 3 hours although I think the tension might be a bit loose so I'll probably tighten it up a bit this weekend.

I'm looking for a 24mm but have found 23.6mm at Decathlon for a tenner. According to the website they (probably) have it at the Surrey Quays store.

According to previous chat here, Brick Lane Bikes may have them (well, 24mm, not sure about 23.6mm) but more expensive.

I've got a 107 Shimano for a 68mm English threaded shell but I'd prefer a 103.

I actually got it (used) on this forum a couple of weeks ago to replace a brand new 110mm BB. It seems to run perfectly smoothly. I've still got the 110mm BB as well so take your pick. (Whichever one you don't want will eventually get offered free here.)

Blankface, I've got the bottom bracket and will try it out in the next couple of days. Do you want first dibs on whichever one I don't use? It'll probably be the 110mm (ridden less than 40 miles).
