Its funny, i have been riding SS for years, and fixed on and off for most of that, but had never really noticed any culture of Fixsters/Hipsters etc etc, probably because i live out west and you can go days without seeing another fixed rider - it never occurred to me that there would be a forum like this, and i only stumbled upon it when searching the internet for a powdercoaters in London, and Armourtex on here was one of the first results - having been on the forum it has exposed me to a whole other world of riding, most of my riding friends look at me as some sort of eccentric/mad professor when i bring out my fixed bikes, but here i found a place where you can more often than not spout shit all day to like minded souls if you so wish - it also made me intrigued to venture out east (somewhere i have rarely been since my messy younger years in the mid 90's at Tyson St in Dalston) and i was amazed at the amount of fixed gear riders there, but also amazed at the amount of them who seemed to have no clue what they were doing, and where clearly the bike was an accessory first, transport second (controversial maybe, but that was my initial reaction).
I have only been a member for about 6 months or so, but even between when i joined up (i think i am around the 2000th member) the forum has changed, not necessarily for the worse, but i remember thinking when i joined, fuck, everyone on here knows each other! Now it seems some know each other, but the majority don't.
The best thing for me about the forum however, is the social aspect - if you have never gone to drinks you should, because their is such a wide range of characters and opinions all united by a love of one cog, and that too me is what makes this forum great, that its not just a faceless internet site, but a real community that more often than not rallies to the help of others - the problem for newbs is quite often that they don't realize how many members know each other through drinks, and as such the off the cuff "cunt, fucker, hipster" abuse is mostly harmless banter.
Ultimatelythe forum is a victim of its own success, in that it is probably the greatest database of fixed gear/ss info on the net, hell google most fixed related topics and LFGSS is always near the top of the list, so inevitably people will log on to ask questions that we have all heard before . . .
Anyway - i am rambling!

raleigh made a centeinary model racer and did it in gold superchrome
its basically a film applied over a chrome frame which makes it look like solid gold,
doesnt age well and flakes off like a bad varnish not many people can redo it these days this had to be stripped and sent down south ( south as in england i was in glasgow at the time)
charge did a gold plug too eh??hopefully i'll get an old raleigh racer frame i can really get stuck into
all the best dude

My first 'real' bike was a black and red raleigh burner I used it pretty much every day from the age of 6 to 16, I rue the day that mountain bike came into my life and my dad gave the burner to the next door neighbors bratty kids.
similar to this??
i built it up and sold it on pretty quick did minimum stuff to it as it was a nice survivor -

Stop boring me with
"I'm new, i want a nice 'fixie bike' for no money"
look at the forum before you start posting, if people have something to sell chances are they have already posted in the appropriate section that they have something to sell, why the fcuk would anyone sit there and read a completely pointless question and think to themselves "shit, that new bob jackson i've just spent an arm and a leg on is boring me so i'll just sell it for half its value to someone who is too impatient to get involved with "the scene" and wants one right away.
rant over, D742324VID its not entirely your fault your just one of a series of people who are too fcuking impatient to wait for what will probably only be 2 days for something vaguely near your size to come up.
cool glad u got your tuppence worth in tescos edward
