@Bernie
maybe we should be listing whether we are doing the "whole two days" or not.
Also, do you want cash forwarded for the room/s
Also, you assume it's a ride out from Tooting or train out from Paddington
Also, where's my drain rods?Good call re. one way or both. I suggest we nail this in a weeks time when we know who will be attending.
No need for deposits at this stage, but will need to bend people's wallets as the cancellation point comes into view.
Tooting or Paddington have equal merit. I will be rolling from Tooting, but either option is open, or a Central line train to Ealing Broadway and then ride from there, but I am not marshalling this third option.
Re drain rods, safely with me. Let me know when you can get central and we can arrange a hand over.

^ will bring shot-gun
Oh and I should have said, singe day riders will be more than welcome, either on the Saturday, or for the return leg on Sunday.
The only immovable element is you will have to meet us at one of the designated points, and to be on time.
More details to follow re detailed routes both ways, hopefully with the benefit of the wisdom of Paul B and Clubman.

He tried to make us get up at 6am to go swimming in Tooting Lido after getting us all drunk in his back garden a few weeks ago. Not a euph.
Nobody was foolish enough to go swimming with him.
The lady speaketh the truth except that the wine waiters joined me for the early morning dip
However, the reason you did not go swimming was that you got up at 5am to go on a Fixie skidderz jaunt to Glasgow and back, on a tank full of Croze Hermitage.
Impressive indeed performance by you and Branwen.
The actual timing is a more leisurely 9am depart after the full English included in the cheapie hotel price.
Full guff on the "Lilliput and back" thread.

To commorate the 346th anniversary of the birth of Jonathan Swift, were are riding to his college, Hertford, in Oxford, staying over, and returning by bike the following day.
The above mentioned work started with the tale of Gulliver's misadventure and travails, at the hands of the tiny people of Lilliput.
6 inches tall, avid readers of the Daily Mail, and distrustful of foreigns and cyclists in equal measure.
Gulliver himself was charged with treason, for "making water" in the capital. His excuse of putting out a raging fire, should stand as the best excuse for any bike rider caught short on a chilly day.
The words of the Dean, more than 300 years old, still ring true.
***"This made me reflect how vain an attempt it is for a man to endeavour doing himself honour amongst those who are out of all degree of equality or comparison with him. And yet, I have seen the moral of my own behaviour very frequent in England since my return, where a little contemptable varlet, without the least title to birth, person, wit, or common sense, shall presume to look with importance, and put himself upon a foot with the greatest persons of the kingdom." ***
Some will be meeting at Tooting Broadway, 9:00am, for the 19 miles to West Drayton station for 11:30am rendevous.
Others will catch the 11:12am from Paddington, arriving West Drayton 11:36am.
We will then ride via Iver, Pinewood Studios, Marlow, Christmas Common, Wattlington, and into Oxford, collecting various locals on the way, aiming to ride into the city centre around 4:30- 5:15pm.
Festivities will commence at the Turf, behind Hertford, and then move on to the Head of the River Inn.
I have reserved two rooms at the Holiday Inn Express, Kassam Stadium, a 6 mile ride from the centre, with breakfast included for a very reasonable £47.50 each, two sharing twin bedded rooms. This compares favourably with the cost of the train home, not to mention the shouting and arguments with beligerant jobs-worth rail guards.
We will then be leaving prompt the following morning at 9am, and following the A40 rather than the Christmas Common route home to hopefully be back in central London around 1pm.
But the main reason for the ride, as well as the cammeraderie, and a few foaming pints at our destination, is to experience the russet colours and wind blown glories of the Chilterns.
And as Gulliver said, whilst imprisoned by the intellectual pigmies
"Imagine with thyself, dear reader, how often I then wished for the tongue of Demosthenese or Cicero, that might have enabled me to celebrate the praises of my own dear native country, in a style equal to its merits and felicity."
Oh, and a list.

9/10th is good for me. didn't get to do this last year so would be good. now all i've got to do is swing it with the missus*
*she ain't gonna like it!
Oh my, it's not a drain rod.
Just keep your trousers on and say "please, Supreme Commander, guardian of the Universe, can I go out to play with my chums?"
-
as before, it would be good to try and meet up with you somewhere in the hills for the roll into town on the 9th
Will be our pleasure. I will tag a few well known meeting points, along the route.
The phone reception around Chistmas Common can be extremely patchy, but I will add the markers to the mix when the date has been confirmed.

Ah I wouldn't be able to make the 9th/10th. But please have fun!
Bernie how's the foot?
Thanks for asking. Was a broken bone, been off it for two days, and miracle cure has been announced.
Real shame you cannot make it mister, would be lovely to have you along if your plans change.
So, people, we seem to have a consensus for the 9/10. Please consult the higher beings, and confirm tomorrow that you are good to go?
I will do a bit of homework on cheapie hotels.

"A tavern is a place where madness is sold by the bottle". J. Swift
I was thinking about this ride too, having bailed last year (or at least slept in, ridden to Marlow, then given up). Cambridge ride is on the 16th this year. Varsity double header?
Wow, that was spookey, was thinking of this the other day, as the autumnal leaves started to fall.
Would there be any interest in a weekend "there and back" with a cheapie Premier Inn overnight? I am sure we could be trusted not to get totally blasted, and be up at 6am for the ride home on Sunday...
I am just thinking the return rail journey inevitably turns into a pitched battle with the train company and a 150 mile round trip would be a great way to finish off a wonderful year of cycling.

Appreciate the river even more after dipping in the freezing Tooting Bec Lido today - warm and chlorine-free.
Hope you guys gave the fat boy who jumped the line to load the bike on the train a good time.Yes, he was a bit of a cheeky chappie, sneaking his bike on whilst we tried to negotiate extra places for us all.
Anyway, you will be glad to hear that we introduced him to our very own travelling porn star
and a three stone gibbering wreck was seen staggering to the first aid post at Paddington after an eventful train journey.

I'm really sorry but I'm out for tomorrow. I woke up this morning unable to turn my head more than 45 degrees to the right, I think I should probably rest instead. Have an awesome time!

Out for this I'm afraid. Need to spend some time with my godson this weekend, bless the little blighter, and won't be able to incorporate sadly.
I'll have no. 7 please!
Squad all on the train, looking forward to a glorious days riding and sunshine.
Well done KT Bee for organising the most exquisite of weather.

Ooh Bernie, are you lurking? You should come - we do your route over the Chilterns.
KT, thank you, but I seem to be inundated with work. If the waters of the Nile part, and I find myself with a gap in the diary, I will certainly get along.
Had a great day at the Sheldonian a month ago. What an event.
