Gents, can I echo the calming words earlier in the thread? We have an often illogical attachment to our bikes. The guy is trying to sell, and we don't know why. Maybe give the benefit of the doubt, and be willing to suffer colourways, and set ups that are not quite to our individual taste? If it is not plain dangerous, surely we should go easy on one of our own?

levers on seems a great idea, until you pinch the tube, and then have to do a pucture repair even before you hit the road. I find that getting the bead deep into the rim, on the opposite side to the final "bit" is the key, rather than allowing it to sit close to the edge. The few mm of extra clearance is often the difference between success and failure.

Another great night. I invited a cousin along, who had just moved down from Lancashire, and he was blow away by the camaraderie, verbal abuse, and excessive drinking, all in equal measure. By the way, I find it easier to remember to pedal, when half full of Guinness; maybe I forgot to forget? Mr. Hoops, you are the don with your crinkley plastic bagels.......

A great obituary on Ian Hibell, in of all places, the Economist, 13 September addition. www.economist.com

Talking of bikes, has anyone a totally knackered 58cm frame fixed wheel they want to get rid of? I am in awe of the beautiful bikes on display around the site, but could not be trusted with such paintjobs, given the way it will be treated. Also, thanks to the bike courier outside HMV in Oxford Street last Friday who recommended the site. I owe you a pint!
