I need a pro with the skills to get me rimmed up...
Would be a real wheel, on a 32h Formula Hub.
Rim would either be a Mavic Open Pro or a Velocity Fusion...still considering that one.
All items would be provided except spokes...
Anyone care to step forward or recommend someone?
Going rate of couple pints and a mixed doner? -

anyone up for climbing next week?
i climb 2-3 times a week, have rope, spare harness and even spare boots...if you've got small paws and partial to getting grim feet
westway is best for me, arch is also ok. castle a bit of a pain but can be done.
happy to teach, happy to crank it with a pro...
pm if interested.

so just heading back from castle climbing wall now...my biggest passion in life, even more than this cycling malarkey.
and since getting fixed, i can't help but notice how many beautiful steeds are grazing in the wall bike lock up.
so firstly if you're on here and climb, be good to hear from you...
and second, i'm noticing a trend.
arch bouldering wall...a few OTPs, nothing drool worthy so far
castle, some sweet rides, many of which i'd not seen before...harry davis something or other, red frame and bare bars and a good looking white dolan
and finally westway, my usual wall...3 langsters... a statement on west london perhaps?

If you like a deep v in black - Velocity Fusion - £30
if you like to have a decent rims that's a bit lighter - Mavic Open pro* - £30-35(*I think they came in black with black braking surface).
Or saving even more if I get em in silver...£24.99

Just wanted to wade in with a few thoughts...
Making some progress. BLB frame, not currently in stock, but end of month will arrive in 49cm...as I'm a runt... reckon cream....
Wheels, going to get a rear built up from my old Charge hub, is there a member here that comes well recommended but cheapish. Rim not sure on for now, maybe a black Velocity like Edscoble said, as that looks good and save a bit of weight n cash...
Will keep the front wheel as it is from Plug...upgrade when I break it...
Cranks - maybe find something second hand, or get the cheaper Suginos...

Thanks guys....
Thinking the advice of a BLB frame is best for my budget...would love a Bob, but too much bob....The hub probably is salvageable, but heard they're pretty poo on the Charge...so was planning to build a couple of new wheels, using deeps Vs...what's the best for budget, Velocitys maybe?

Posted recently about my flattened Charge Plug. Having become hooked on riding fixed, I think rather than rush and buy another off the peg, I want to build my own. (does mean I'll have to ride a mtb for a while though..)
But I don't really know what the best bits to get for my budget of 500 (payout from insurance!). This would need to buy frame, rear wheel (or perhaps a set of front and rear and crankset.
Salvageable from my Plug is everything from the front (bars, stem, wheel etc), the saddle, post and pedals. Not sure about BB, as teh cranks are bent to fk, so guess might be damaged.
Advice/recommendations most appreciated.
Oh and if there's a previous post on this, sorry guys...did look and couldn't find anything?

mate you've given this a lotta thought...
And I feel I've created a monster.
I think as an intellectual exercise you are right and I in the whole agree
But i still fear that your inner motivations would be lost on the outsider, the ped, the driver
Perhaps one for further discussion.
Anyone see the piece in thelondonpaper this eve re boris wanting to make it ok to bend the rules a cyclist?

[quote=cg5154;335942]I agree, I usually ride under the assumption that drivers will do stupid things. But it doesn't matter how aware you are, there's really no way to prevent somebody directly behind you from driving into you, is there?
Maybe because I'm Captain Anal people like striking me from behind...
Happened to me on my MTB too, left hand filter lane light went green so the traffic in the left starting moving...trouble was the guys behind me in the RIGHT lane thought that was for him too, and ploughed into my rear wheel...
At least he was totally apologetic though

since when assuming every vehicle on the road is driven poorly mean you´ll have to break some rules? all it mean is that you just have to be a lots more aware, i.e. if you´re going through a junction, assumed the car in front of you is going to turn left, even if the car isn´t incidating.
that sort of stuff.
no absolutely agree, I was more replying to the earlier post re cyclists getting pillored for riding badly...totally agree on the defensive riding point...tanking down the embankment at full speed you wouldn't expect a car to turn right across your path...but we know they love doing that don't they...
-

or simply assumed that every single vehicle on the road is driven poorly, that work as well.
it's ironic, as I'm captain anal when it comes to cyclist and obeying road rules...e.g. never go through a red, even if just a pedestrian crossing with no one on it, never riding on pavement etc...
However, not gonna let it change me....
Plus, hopefully fat payout for a new bike!

So on Tues riding through Stockwell. Stopped at a T junction to turn right, cars in the way so waiting for opportunity...one foot on pedal, the other on the floor (only been riding fixed few weeks, can't track stand yet...)
Road's clear, pedal off to go right, got 1ft forward before I feel myself being pushed over...car behind me somehow saw through my fat ass and decided to turn right...over me...
Drove across rear wheel as my bike lay sideways, managed to get foot out in time so no injury bar bruising from hitting the deck...
How the hell did that happen? She had literally no excuse not to see me in front of her...

So I'm still bikeless. Had a two week epic with Insurance company...insisting I bought an OTP from Wheelies, wouldn't give me cash for building my own. Sorted now, so ready to go, well not quite...
I wanted a BLB frame in that lovely white colour in 49cm (or indeed any size 52cm or less). But they've been out of any stock for past month or so.
However Cavendish has a 50cm IRO Mark V in black, which is equally good, and available now.
Trouble is I like the badgeless, braze-on free lines of the BLB frame, but there just seems to be no idea of when I'll get one.
Public transport is doing my nut and kinda tempted to stop being so picky and go with the branded frame with superficial braze-ons and start building....
But then again, isn't the point of a custom build getting it spot on?
Any advice? Anyone know of any super clean small frames going for under £250?
