I don't particularly like the overloading of the event with all of the political stuff, but I like just going out on a ride with a lot of people, with no real purpose, and no real destination, and just enjoy the atmosphere.
Oh, and I think we (cyclists) act like jackasses when we do that thing where we go around a roundabout 3 or 4 times and severely block critical junctions. Our mass is a good enough reminder, I don't think we need to act like arseholes to show people we exist.

I've just come back from seeing a mate of mine who had an accident while training with his team in Richmond Park 2 years ago.
The accident happened when he collided with the guy in front and fell off his bike and into oncoming traffic.
His head (wearing a helmet I may add) took the full force of a car travelling at 30mph, severing the nerves in the right hand side of his brain.
He was in a coma for 2 months, is now paralysed on his left side, and needs 24 hour care.
If it wasn't for his helmet he would now be dead. And although he is rebuilding his life and will be seriously disabled for the rest of it. He is still very much the same person inside, and is very thankful to be given another chance.
When I first saw him in hospital I wasn't sure if - put in the same situation - I would have rather have been killed then go through what he has. But the more I see him recover the more I am glad a helmet saved his life.
Saying that - I only wear one while commuting, which he keeps giving me grief for.
thats nuts dude.. you mate is obviously very brave.

Ok so i just got back from a game of 5 a side in hackney and we very nearly got attacked by 15 or so 12yrs to 16 yrs old's! these guys were spoiling for a fight and were just waiting for one of us to tell them to stop booting our ball about (to which someone obliged) before all hell broke loose. Im so fucked off with London at the moment.. we were like 10 or so fully grown men and i dont mind saying i was scared of these little rats they looked dangerous.
Is there anywhere in London you can feel safe? im not sure there is? maybe there is no where anywhere you can feel safe.
Pisses me OFF.
Moan over.
Oh no, sorry man didnt mean to put you out. Hope your bearing up ok.
Thanks for that, think im going to go with record (which i'm using now) or the goldteq.
Cheers
