Amazon.com: Genghis Khan: Conqueror of the World: Leo de Hartog: Books
Reading this beast at the moment, Pretty serious reading from all perspectives.
Researched Genghis Khan from 1941 (when the author was a POW) to 1989 (presumably book was first published then).
More of a accurate historic text and a bit heavy going, but it paints a very vivid of the Mongol Barbarian emperor, with the romanticism removed.

That bike looks in great condition for being 50 years old (from what I can see), I think you shouldn't touch it if its all working and original/contemporary with the frame, maybe sell it and get yourself a cheap track frame like ed said. If it's all original, its only all original once.
Keep it as it is!

here is my attempt.... (apologies for rubbish photo)
Waiting for rear sprocket and freewheel and it is good to go.
It is done. The nice mavic/105 hub front wheel need the cones adjusted so I nicked the wheel from my beater (which looks like it has been in the wars). However the bar tape looks fucking wicked despite my poor attempts at photography.
Seriously though, I had the most fun cycling on this beast in 30 minutes than I had in the last 3 or 4 months. Was smiling like the Cheshire cat on the way back after showing off to my mates. Proper chuffed that I done a decent job of my first full bike build.
EDIT: I done a massive fail and didn't shoot drive side shots....oh well fuck it, too late now.

Didn't they use these to hijack the 9/11 flights?
I am not sure, the only way you could hurt someone is if you poked them in the eye or tried cutting their throat after filing the metal part in such a manner to make it sharp (You can take the blade over you skin and it won't even leave a mark, tip is about 2mm or 3mm thick).
Also it is some crappy mild steel (I would expect it to be detected by a metal detector).
Scarily if this is true, half the male tesco work force that is under 19 are pretending to slice eat others faces with them when taking a skiv with something which is potentially lethal.

Good business man, Yes, but do we really need any more truly shit pop acts. How much money does one man really need. Cigarettes have public health warnings so should his record label.
My counter argument would be that the sort of people that like X-factor/Pop Idol and the sort of music that they tend to like is (IMO) shite anyway.
If they enjoy these things, good for them and good for him for exploiting it to its fullest potential.
Compared to a lot of the other tits that have been highlighted, such as Danny Dyer which has made a carreer of glamorising violence in his films such as the football factory and Adulthood, along with his various "hardest men" series.

On the bikes vs ability debate.
Reckon once u have a decent alloy frame with 105 kit, that about as good as the majority of "weekend warriors" need IMO.
I was throughly embarassed when I went out with the local bike club and got overtaken on the flat by a 79 year roadie with what looked like an ancient steel frame, while I was on my year old specialized allez.
Have a shit racing bike like my ancient orbit (my beater) and it is seriously hard to get up hills and other roadies laugh at you after you have overtaken them on the flat.
