rocksteady: i've got one of those headsets, currently on a frame in my garden. not in amazing condition cosmetically but functionally decent. might warrant new bearings. you interested?
jayloo: 6500 is 9 speed, so rear mech would have been designed for 9 speed but should work fine with 8 speed drivetrain. If your shifters are SL-6401 then they should be 8 speed. its often quite hard to tell if the shifters are ok without actually setting them up with a cable, mech and wheel+cassette and seeing if they click through all the gears ok.

all shimano parts are stamped somewhere with a product code and a date code. The product code consists of the item code plus groupset, so all front derailleurs are FD, and this groupset is 6400, 6401, 6402, 6403. basically the 6 indicates it is in the 600 range, the 4 indicates the version of this range (with 6200 being the first, and modern 10 speed ultegra currently on 6700), the last two digits indicate the slight changes in the product, which don't constitute a whole new range.
on the front mech on the back there should be a stamp FD-.... If it is something like FD-6400 then it is tricolor model.
On the shifters, on the inside of one of the levers should be a stamp SL-.... Again if its is SL-6400 it will be 7 speed indexed tricolor.. If it is SL-6401 it is 8 speed indexed
it is probably worth having a look at the rear hub again as unless it is physically snapped in half a hub is often salvagable. you may need a new freehub body, bearings etc but its probably worth looking at
Also if the rear mech is 6500 it will be 9 speed, and compatible with 8 speed
Front mechs are pretty mech all the same so you don't really need to worry about that -
I've got planty of 255mm left but no 270mm unfortunately. However, I have 268mm and 273mm, either of which may work depending on your requirements. Also have alloy or brass nipples...Let me know, thanks!

theres a pair of DA wheels on the bay at the moment for 99 quid. they already finished one auction without anyone buying them so seller may well end early for 99.. if you can be bothered to strip, sell of rims and tyres and the rear hub that is..

rims are mismatched, front looks like a campagnolo omicron or similar whereas rear looks like rigida dpx or something. front hub looks to be xenon.

shifters are all faulty and some incomplete - shifting does not work properly, and its not just a quick wd40 fix to 'unstick' them.. they will all need replacement parts.. i have some spare parts from a canabalised ultegra shifter that i would include if anyone wanted any of the shifters...
