Sorry you've had no replies. I've never done this. Have you ever cut a thread before? Maybe your record pista cranks aren't the best place to have a 'first go'. Have you tried screwing in the crank extractor and seeing how far it goes in easily (don't apply any pressure)?
I have cut threads before (back home my father has a workshop), but in the UK i have no tools nor vice and etc.
Problem is that beginning of the thread is damaged... that's why i have chose piloted thread chaser... another option is to try and remove BB without extracting L crankarm (i know it may be tricky or impossible) as i have a little bit of space between crankarm and bb cup to try and tuck tools in.... and undo bb lockring/cup.. has anyone tried this?
thanx for your compassion guys...
i was considering a wedge type system (one used for bmx and generally un-extractable crank if i'm not wrong), but it looks destructive and savage in terms of the damage to bb bearing cup on the other hand bb cup is cheaper easier to find than L pista 165 crankarm

http://www.bicycletool.com/threadchaserforcrankarmdustcaps.aspxSome dodgy bustard tampered (tried to nick it) with my left crank (i always lock right one :)... it seems to me that he tried to remove crank with something sharp, probably knife [hehehehehe] or flat screw driver.. while doing that he fcuked up thread halfway through [not severely]
I hesitate to use crank extractor [for sq taper] as it will damage threads further more... on the other hand I'm desperate to repair it [crankset: 1973 campy record pista 165]
My question is:
Has anyone used piloted Thread Chaser TC - 8 for extractor/dust cap thread? Any luck? Please, let me know if you had the same problem and solved it...

just noticed my spider is on the outside so could be moved in
but as i say the chain straightens up perfectly at 1 point on the rotation then banks the other way
opposite to the direction in the picture
which suggests a bent chainring! yeah?to me it looks like fcuked/twisted chain... lol.. make/brand of the chain?

i'm trying to avoid BLB at any cost as I had a bad experience with them... and it is so overpriced... matter of principle.. one day i'll arrange purchase from states (have few cousins down there)...
I rung to one guy today and secured 36h campy record pista large flange hubs for bargain price so 28h clincher rims no longer needed :))))
I'll keep 28h campies for tub rims...
I think it worked out well

1973 record pista 28h large flange
You right - cause it is so hard to find a good and light non machined vintage 28h clincher rim and there are plenty of tub rims... 28h track hubs laced to tub rims probably were used by light (weight wise) track bike riders. my dreamcometrue rim would be ARAYA SUPER AERO SA30 (these a little bit heavish), campy atlanta 1996, campy omega strada hardox v profile, campy delta xl strada or mavic cxp12 hehehehe... poor chance to find these in 28h drilling and good condition or nosI am considering buying new track hubs cause can't find 28h rims
your 28h campy montreal is a fine and light (385g) low profile rim.. what it is the finish of your rims? hardox, titanium or satin?

specialized tricross are currently within budget at pearson cycles, see the thread further down.
And welcome
Please, don't buy specialized !!!! every second bike in london is specialized ... Follow this thread and ebay (french, italian)... go through classifieds on different bicycle club websites, local classified, bicycle jumbles etc. don't buy specialized..

I'm convinced that this is not a track chainset. It is a Campag (Victory?) double with only one ring fitted.
I agree with you, otherwise he would show a pic of 170 pista marking on the inside of right crank and ask much higher price... Have a look at his other auctions his asking £110 for Super Record headset - top cone of headset have no cutouts/holes so its not SR road or track headset, it might be record. It doesn't make any sense to sell pista crankset cheaper than headset..

reference your sources :) sheldon brown does not like term dropouts ...
to hippy:
I am not questioning Your knowledge... dropouts, track ends, fork ends - who cares...
i'm just being sarcastic...:))) sheldon brown wrote somewhere that he hates term "dropout", and it should be called track ends - shame I have to explain to You what sarcasm means... (I'm being sarcastic again:::)
Merry Christmas to everyone!!! -

make sure you wash your bike with a hot water and re-grease it (salt will eat shit out of the bike, it is so punishing to plastic or rubber seals, paint, etc. also it changes grease consistensy)
