Probably do it whever its worth it or not as....
A. I already have 80 spokes of the correct length, which I would also have to sell on.
B. I live in Norway and have to import stuff (meaning postage costs + customs fees). Also, as poteintal buyers of the hubs who would most likley be outside of Norway, I would have to cover postage to make it a worthwhile buy.
C. it being a pain to get hold of bits means having extra bearings laying around is no bad thing.
D. While fretting about buying a campy record pista (due to its unsealed nature) a month ago, I accidently won a ceramic bearing BB of the same dimensions on Ebay. So It feels right to do the hubs too (Kneecaps next for easy down hill spinning).
E.I'm just plain stupid, curious, and love taking things apart.

I was'nt really aware of how important the hub body was. BTW Sheldon Brown (or at least his shop 'harris cyclery') described the hubs as being inspired by campy sheriff stars. Personally I dont think they even come close. The fact of the matter is that I am now curious, and it sounds like plain fun. -
Sorry for the thread hijack, but......
I started a low budget - fixed build a few months ago, which has now grown into a beast which keeps me awake at night with cries of feed me! feed me!
One of my first (sensible) buys was a pair of ambrossio track hubs, which I got really cheap. Having got carried away, everything I have collected since then has been pretty high end. I am now toying with the idea of rebuilding the hubs with quality track nuts, and ceramic cartridge bearings (£17 per cartridge). I must admitt I have no real belief that this will give a noticable improvment in performance. I just love the idea of building a steel track bike which looks vintage, yet incorparates new technology (it appeals to my inner geek).
My questions are - should/can I replace the spindles?
- is this the very definition of 'polishing a turd'?

I live in Norway where people think cyclists should use the footpaths. Admittedly this is often quite safe as there are'nt that many people on the footpaths, but I still think its reckless.
Anyway, fully aware that I am annoying the f**k out of the Norwegians (I'm English BTW), I used to ride as far to the right as possible.
One monday morning a bus overtook me despite oncomming traffic on the other side of the road. He missed me by centimeters.
On tuesday morning he gave me only millimeters.
On wednesday my handlebars actually rubbed along the side of the bus for a couple of meters. There is no path to escape to on this streatch, just a soft verge (love that expression) with a steep stoney drop to the freezing fjord below. I froze for a second, looked down to see that my front tyre was right on the edge of the tarmac, and froze some more. Absolutly nothing bad happened and I calmly finished my commute to work, were I went into a mild state of shock.I now ride further into the road and pull over if possible to allow lorrys and buses to pass. If it is not safe for me pull over they can bloody wait!

From experiance I would check for burrs on the inside of the stem and sand them down before said twisting and wiggling. I have a irritating zigzag stratch on the (luckily) underside of my Ambrossio bars. Its deep but on the extra central part of the bars so I'm assuming (well its blind hope really)that its not going to lead to a structural problem!

(first post, bear with me)
I was about to part with the cash for a Record pista BB but bottled out due to the lack of seals (I live in Norway which is very wet). I ended up buying a overly techy Token Tiramic BB (111mm asymmetric, iso taper, british threaded). On paper it looks great -Ceramic bearings
Titanium races/ spindle
carbon shell
165g (claimed)In reality the asymmetric-ness(?) might not be the same as the campy (I assume, but have no idea) and it might have the life expectancy of a mayfly. I'll post a quick review when I finish the build (bob jackson vigorelli with italian bits, and silly BB).
How much of that 300g saved is lost to half inch thick cogs and chainrings?
Also, can you fix it should it break while out on a long ride?
Having said that, I am all for people investing time and money in good honest tinkering instead of just following the market.
