Finally getting a loft ladder put into an existing hatch following the recommendations on this thread. I'll need to paint the architrave around the opening which has years old gloss. Do I try to remove it, strip and sand, reinstall and paint properly or just overpaint it?
Thinking a quick overpainting job won't be too noticeable since it's in the ceiling and will minimise mess - everything else is already decorated, so the less sanding the better really. Will I live to regret this?

Still a strulch fan here. I don't find it blows around - if anything it mats down a bit. Local cats haven't seemed to realise it's an ideal litter tray either.
For mulch basically any organic matter as long as it's not full of perennial weed seeds. I'd save high nutrient things like manure for the spring to avoid it leaching away in a wet winter.

Trying an experiment this year. Garlic planted quite close together (10cm or so) and then onion sets placed between the rows at similar spacing. In theory the leaves will come up between the bulbs and the roots shouldn't interfere as they're at different depths but maybe it will be a disaster of pea-sized bulbs, we'll have to see I guess. The leaves will definitely interfere a bit, but since they're so long and thin I'm hoping it won't matter too much.

I had a guess, found some similar concrete and kerbstones but couldn't find a match
