You should be ashamed of yourself recommending Mrs Palmers.
BRM, everywhere is miles from the airport... It's not a great setup.
As hippy says, the GOR is always recommended and its really nice and I love the Dandenongs too. Daylesford/Casltemain are ace little towns too. Great restaurants and markets.
My most recent favourite is St Andrews market. Little awesome hippy market, or out in Gippsland, the Kongwak market is gold too. Really small and quirky. I dig little country markets. Get a snag.
While on markets, feb is bang in night market season. Queen Vic and South Melbourne on Tuesday nights. Thursday at st Kilda. Booze and food and music. There is a great one at Abbotsford convent too apparently, though ive not been. These are certainties for dinner. I go most weeks.
Also, depending on the time of year, there are country 'picnic races'. Pack an esky and food and go watch the nags. It's a totally different feel to city races. So chilled and you can only bet on site, so it's less about the gambling than getting pissed in the sun.
So yeah, eat, drink, buy a seed pod hat, listen to tunes in bare feet.

You can still get business outside the Brixton Hill Sainsbury's...
Morrisons in Stokey... About 6pm one night, I guess.
I had big bags of shopping and was walking home when I was approached and asked what I was doing...
"well, I'm buying these groceries"
"don't want no fun wiv me then?"
"ah.... look, I've got icecream I need to get home"
"can I have some icecream?"fair question... but it was chunky monkey, so no dice there either.
