First post in a few months/years. Thought I'd share a moment that made my blood boil last night, so much so I riskily recorded it whilst cycling:
http://youtu.be/XLQRuN-OwPw
On watching the footage I realized what vexed me so much wasn't the way he was driving up the ass of the poor cyclist ahead, nor the fact that he was actually slowing my journey but quite simply HE WAS QUEUE JUMPING!!! This is England!!
Worth Roadsafe-ing big brothers??

Also recommend the service and advice that http://www.thelondoncycleworkshop.co.uk/ provides on St John's Hill Nr Clapham Junction, focusses on servicing, repairs and some commuter accessories. Same day repairs and servicing and even offers a courtesy bike. (not tried)

I had one with properly tightened brakes the other day, accidentally pulled a few skids negotiating peds crossing over at Vauxhall, then pulled a massoive skid into the docking station. I was thinking "Rad!!" anyone who saw me must have thought "c0ck".
Have the brakes been tightened or was that a lucky one-off?

Swim: Looking for an indoor pool to start some swimming -really need to do proper drills and practice technique, all I did last year was to jump in the pool and swim the distance I was supposed to be racing as fast as I could - no measurable result between the start and end of season. Will be in tooting Lido 2 or 3 nights a week once it warms up a little (April??).
Bike: Every commute is a training session. (And an exercise in ingesting nasty diesel soot particles deep into my lungs -could be counterproductive)
Run: slowly starting some jogs, may do a few 10/5K races early next year (Bookham etc)-to concentrate the training. (Dodgy achilles means taking it slowly esp any speed work and hills.)

I'm fairly confident I'm not making this up...
A friend told me once, apparently it costs money to dispose of bikes in Japan, so a lot of people try and give them away. Apparently a good source was the back of the free gaijin mags you might find lying around....
Sweet, thanks, but bit of double edged sword that one - what will happen when I get to the end of my time and want to get rid? Presumably there is some sort of disincentive for abandoning them if there is a cost associated with disposing of them. (Could always chuck it in the hold...)

Mate of mine did this a few years back - blog here: http://www.transamericatrailcycle.com/2008/05/super-sunday.html

[I'm embarrassed to say I deliberately went out of my way to keep up with him, as effortlessly as possible of course, for the next 2 miles - just to hammer home whatever point I was making]
That's my normal MO, works if there's a normal amount o traffic, but early or late the cars will generally get away from me, as Milbank/embankment Northside has to be one of London's faster moving thoroughfares.
+a bucket load to the rotafix method!!
Sadly I didn't check LFGSS for the answer but thought I'd come back to the fold and share my happy experience -and YouTube's advice: https://youtu.be/5qIVEpyelP0
