oof, that seems a good deal, interesting...

What do you mean you think it's 8 speed?
i bought it and rode it a couple of times, since then (8 months ago) it's been sat in my mum's garage waiting until i had money to spend on it. so can't quite remember whether it's 8 speed. it's too new a groupset to be 7 speed and too old to be 9 from the little i know about gears and groupset evolution
-
I bought a Fausto Coppi k28 last year, rode it for a while but was having issues with the gears dropping. Friend serviced it for me but quickly deteriorated. The chainring and cassette are pretty worn. Its a mix of old shimano 105 and shimano 600 (ultegra) and is 8 speed (i think).
Would ideally like to swap out the groupset for something new and was looking at sram rival (would prefer sram/shimano over campy). Is this the best groupset to be looking at for performance/cost payoff? at round 440 it seems a good deal. is it worth looking at second hand higher spec gear?
is anyone familiar with Arsis components?

bilt. will still get the paint done, but not right away. likely will take the fork to black with a rattle can for the mean time. fork suits the bike perfectly. rides like spinner.
and for those intersted, here's a good way to store bikes. Cost, cheap. Time, 2 hours. Just cut the top pipe to the right length. rest is stock.

Halo Twin Rail Courier Berlin 700x24
Grip 2/10, then 8/10 after wearing in period
Handling 1/10, then 8/10 after wearing in period
Wear 9/10
Puncture Protection 10/10
Comfort 10/10
Weight (or perceived rolling weight) 6/10
Speed (rolling resistance) 8/10, then 7/10 after wearing in period
Appearance (black with white and red lettering) 8/10
Price 8/10 (£22.99)
Skidability ?/10 (I don't skid, but I think it would have a very high skidability factor)
Overall rating / opinion 8.5/10
A really surprising tyre, that has a Jekyll and Hyde character. At first, the high-ridged twin-rail design, makes the tyre very fast for its weight, as you are riding only an EXTREMELY narrow section of hard rubber. This is what gives it its initially very low rolling resistance, and its treachery when meeting a raised manhole cover. Especially in the wet, it will just skip off it, and change your direction so fast, that you will need good handling skills to avoid a minor calamity. But after some miles have been put in, the twin-rails are worn down to closer to the rest of the tyre. Then the handling is predictable, and in fact, the tyre enjoys fast changes of direction.....that you have wished for, not that it has decided for you. Comfort is uncanny. It actually feels like riding with suspension hubs. It soaks up minor bumps, and absorbs sudden deep potholes with ease. This part of its behaviour, is unlike any tyre I've ever tried. Puncture protection must be on par with Marathon Pluses. I've ridden through the shittiest roads and gravel and flinty surfaces on purpose, to properly test this tyre, and nothing. Not a scratch. Buy it, wear it in, ride it till you drop. Excellent tyre. AND the tread design is perfect for dispersing water, and for slush.
i won a pair of these in an alleycat (green ones) and used them on the back. didn't last very long with skidding and quickly squared off (talking three weeks) inside seems to be some weird foamy rubber, not very durable. didn't really have much time to assess the other points. I think it has alot to do with the colour ie non carbon rubber
definitely wouldn't recommend the green ones although your review of the black seems to be positive.
edit.
just seen my error, it was the twin rail i had, they are awful -
**Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 23c x 700c
**This is all a bit subjective as I don't really have any point of reference.Grip 8/10
I'm quite staggered at how well these grip. I bottle it well before they do in the corners. They've never let go, and I have great confidence on road metal.Wear 7/10
They cut up pretty easily. I do about 75 miles a week on them, and I super glue them about once every six weeks.Puncture Protection 6.5/10
I get a flat about every 6 weeks. It's always glass - every time.Comfort 6.5/10 ?
I ride at about 8 bar, on an ally frame and carbon forks. My saddle is not a mattress. Maybe the tyres are uncomfortable. I reckon there's a lot more in the chain I could blame.Weight (or perceived rolling weight) 8/10
Light like floating leafSpeed (rolling resistance) 8/10
Nippy quickAppearance (or Looks, if it comes in colours) ?/10
Black contact, grey side walls and orange flash. I like them.Price N/A
They came on the bike.Skidability N/A
Single speed.Overall rating / opinion 7/10
I think they are very good. I would prefer to have them cut up less, and glass appears to defeat them. I am going with Schwalbe Marathon Plus 25c x 700c next, so I'll write that up when I'm back from Cologne - should be around 400 miles on them then.i would mostly agree with this. have run both 25s and 28s front and back, although only p-worded 3 or 4 times in the past 18 months, each time on the back. generally due to a piece of glass. overall i would say the puncture protection is exceptional. riding in Manchester, London and Paris. i ride about 100 miles a week.
replace the rear every 6 months or so, although i have 34 skid patches.
have tried other tyres and always end up coming back to these, just wished they did all black ones

I 'upgraded' to a Sony 230 DSLR recently and compared to my old G9 it is simply incredible in low light.
Hardly any noise, and the lenses are super sharp.
At the price I got it for, it is definitely worth it over a g9/10/11, particularly as my biggest irritation with the above mentioned cameras was the shutter speed issue.I am no professional photographer, nor am i even an impassioned amateur- Just when I go skiing i like to have crisp action shots, and judging by my test shots on this things are looking good.
Having said that I could only afford it at the end of last year and for the past two years I have been using a film SLR to practice, and taking my canon places i wouldn't take my film camera, so we'll see.
Also the movie function on the g9 was really fucking good quality so I might miss that too.i thought this might be the case, guessed the DSLR would give superior low light performance. i want to be doing long exposure shots of stars and desert/remote location shots but will be using it alot during the day whilst travelling. will be used for action shots when climbing and riding as well
any reason why you went for the sony over nikon/canon?
the appeal of the nikon for me is the ability to get the more affordable sigma lenses.
i should note that i am very much an enthusiastic amateur and learning from mistakes and trial and error
nb is anyone familiar with the pentax kx? been reading it performs well in night photography situations and is capable for HDR applications as well which is also of interest

just used the search to dig this back up as i wanted to ask a question about a budget DSLR and this kinda suited what i wanted to know. was all taken on the G10 after reading this till i saw sharkstar's comment about poor performance in low light.
my new job involves alot of travel and i've never really been able to afford a decent camera up until now, i've been using an old minolta 7000 of my dad's with a single minolta af28 lense.
now i have the means to get a better camera i wanted a dslr, nothing too expensive for the fear of muggings and theft (i will be working in some pretty ropey places).
the g10 seemed interesting but i want to take alot of pictures at night so performance in those conditions is important. am i right in thinking this takes me into DSLR territory? if so is the nikon 3000 the kind of thing that would suit? the reviews i've read have been positive...
the appeal of the g10 was its compactness but i guess a dslr and a couple of lenses i could cope with.

due to the demand (whining and moaning really) i put the finished faggin up. i like it a lot, the way it looks now and feels when let loose. it just so wants to go. enjoy!
absolutely love this. what's going on with the back wheel though? is it four white spokes laced into it? and what's the rim, is the chunk of silver a design on the rim or just a sticker? love it

Looking for a bit of local knowledge. Moving to Brighton in May and want to commute to work on my bike. aware of cycle route NCN20 that'll take me but would rather be riding on the road than cycle paths. Is the A23 too hectic to ride all the way from Brighton to Crawley and back? Pretty confident rider but don't wanna take to much of a risk.
Am i better sticking to the nearby A and B roads? ie A273 (Brighton rd, London rd, Isaac Lane) through Burgess Hill then B2036 (London Rd, Balcombe Rd) up through Balcombe into Crawley?
Cheers!
