Building up a second bike so i don't have to ride my Dolan + spds round all the time.
Not gonna be a total beater but at the same time nothing amazing.
Looking for a coupla bits, mainly 1/8 crankset and rear cog - ideally black crankset but know i might be pushing my luck there. Currently got road double crankset on there but would prefer track set to get better chainline.
Think i've probably got the rest of the bits sorted....
Got an old lugged road frame to use but would ideally prefer a cheap track frame instead of running a conversion so if anyone's got one to sell i'd be interested
Cheers

"Readers of the prestigious Condé Nast (my dad) Traveler magazine voted Leeds the number one city in the UK in 2003, above more well known locations such as London and Edinburgh"
aye, i'm up for this, although high likelihood i'll get lost as i don't know leeds at all

Whatever you do, don't go for alloy chainring bolts...fitted some to those miche cranks when i first got em, creaked like a bastard for a day until i fitted steel bolts. And yes, i had greased them. I think alloy bolts in general are a bad idea on bikes
Reckon you should get yourself a small bottle of black touch up paint, those parts are so small you wouldn't really notice a DIY job.
thats a good idea, should've thought of that really! would be interested to see if that heat/diesel oil thing works though...

I was running 70" and it was fine, very spinny but not too bad due to the lack of traffic. We went straight through to the library exit, tough to keep up speed towards the end.
was guessing it'd be that much. whats the incline like exit side? pretty steep? not really gonna be as much of a problem for guys riding gears i guess

I just built a hybrid crow's foot this afternoon. Phil Wood front hub on a Mavic CXP33. I used radial and 2-cross lengths. A drop of linseed oil on the threads. It's a rebuild from a previously pringled rim.
Just use spocalc to work out the lengths or edd, ehren fried chicken's online web app. The radial length may be referred to as zero cross. And you'll need 2-cross too.
Cyclebasket do black spokes singly at only 29p each. The thing with black spokes when ordering them yourself is that online bike shops tend to do only a small range of lengths. So you may not be able to find the one that you are looking for.
Make sure that the radial spoke is on top of the other two that cross.
Have fun.
cool, thanks for your help, was looking at spocalc but had no idea how to input the lacing style will give it a go now, hopefully the spoke lengths aren't too odd to get black ones....

oh wow, that's pretty cool, haven't seen that one before. your best bet is taking that diagram into yor lbs, and letting them sort the rest out for you. they'll use good quality spokes too, I imagine. My lbs use dtswiss, and you have the option of black or silver, and plain guage or double butted.
i will be taking the diagram in, just wanted to know more about it as i know others on here have built up similar wheels, so am looking to them to give me an idea of the specifics of the particular lacing style. wanna understand it first rather than just leaving it all up to the bike shop

looking to get a wheel built with hybrid crow's foot lacing, everything i've read about the pattern has been complimentary and i fancy something different.
i've got a 32h gran comphe high flange hub and mavic open pro rims.
how do i work out what length spokes i need, guessing there'll be some that are longer than others (radial shorter than crows foot cross ones)?
is your average wheel builder (few small LBS in Manchester plus and evans and a edinburgh cycles) gonna bitch when i mention i want it laced that way and is it likely to cost me more?
Also is it much cheaper for me to source the spokes myself or just use the ones they have in the shop? After black ones, happy with silver nipples though.
