My guess is that the great majority of criminals who actually are sent to jail, began their career stealing bikes.
Looks like Andrea's ignorance isn't limited to racism. Whilst I'm no apologist for criminals, to assume that the majority people in prison are career criminals and that bike theft is a predominant entry level type crime is shockingly dumb. Two Daily Mail-esque entries in three months may be the signs of a worrying trend.

Are you plod?
No, although there is a history of law enforcement in the family. However, my respect for the station of policeman is more derived from various periods of employment in civil service, criminal justice, reform and rehabilitation services.
I realise as much as anyone else that there officers who are literally worse than useless, but I think the evidence clearly shows that they are are outweighed by those who are an asset to society.
Don't get me wrong, I don't easily bow to authority and I won't hesitate to remind the police that a uniform does not exempt them from criticism and scrutiny.

Can you not lose the big ring?
The old Peugeot chainsets are riveted together. Even the chainguard is difficult to remove without making a mess. I could set to with the angle grinder but would rather switch out the whole chainset but that requires tools, money, parts and technical knowledge so I'm leaving it until I have some time to dedicate to it.
Also need to refit brakes, get the correct size freewheel sprocket for the other side of the hub, replace the seatpost and saddle.
My wishlist also contains gun turrets, whirling death blades, an espresso machine, and a brevill.

Complain and suggest to management a new rule......
Unless there's a really good reason, management will do sod all that they won't see a return on.
Better option is to get permission to send out a group e-mail to see if anyone is willing to give up their space or only uses it a couple if days a week and doesn't mind it being used the other times.
Also see about contacting LCCs corporate support bod to come and see the building managment. Might help get another parking space converted.
Out of interest, what type of racking to you have at work?

1) Better the inverted U (Sheffield) stands. Even better than that, ask if there is somewhere inside where you can park - cleaners cupboard, unused office, associated car park.
2) Railings constitute private property and, IIRC, as such the owner/occupier has a legal right to remove any items on or attached to it. Signs are not a legal requirement but are often used to avoid dealing with complaints, criminal damage claims etc.
3) Victoria Street has a lot of people who park up all day and to the best of my knowledge the theft rate isn't too bad against commuters. Check your insurance provisions though. Mostly I wouldn't though.

Despite packing it well, easyjet dropped my gf's bike wrecking a chain stay, a rear dropout, two chainrings, the bottom bracket and the pannier rack. It was her 10 yo trek so after much wrangling over how we'd waited to get home to unpack the bikes and discover the damage they bought her a Mercian. I escaped with a slightly bent front pannier rack that I can't be arsed to claim for.
If you do take your bike with them, pack it well and when it gets off the belt carry it to their desk, notify a member of their staff and inspect it in front of them. The frontline staff are usually OK but the claims department - WABOC.

Oh, and carry plenty of cash - after the garage in Epping Forest, there are no shops open till Dunwich Beach, and probably not that many cashpoints either.
Epping itself has plenty of shops and cashpoints. A couple of bits and bobs in North Weald. Same for Great Dunmow if you're there soon enough. Plenty of cash to be had in Sudbury and fairly confident on that 24hr garage on the road out. Cash points in Needham Market if they're working (weren't when I needed them). Little Chef just after Needham Market but won't open until gone 6am. Cash points in Framlingham after a short divert into the town centre.
Also, if the coffee kicks in after the midpoint and you're not in the mood to field it, the toilets on the way out of Needham Market were open last year. My gf found some guy sleeping in the ladies using his helmet as a pillow. Poor lad.
I can highly reccommend springing for a Terra Nova. Their made in Derbyshire and designed for use in the UK so is very waterproof. We once weathered a heavy storm with about an inch of water running through the car park we were camped in (long story) and barely a drop got in. It's ten years old, survived some rough treatment and just coming up for renewal.
