ive ridden them for a long time, i still find them awkward. the only way i can get in them tightly is to lean down and pull them onto my foot with my hands. otherwise thier just too loose to do anything useful.
i made some power grips last week, and i love them. i still have to lean down to get them on tight, but its much easier to do, and i can do it without looking. because of the self tightening action you can wear any shoes and your always as tight as can be, unlike straps which are always a bit loose so that you can get into the bloody things.

its debatable but i reckon ss is faster on a commute. i live in an area with long hills and i ride 52-17. i can spin up to a point where i outgear and then tuck into a really aero position to hit ridiculous speeds. i dont think you could go as fast as this on a FG, as well as a Fg having to have a slightly more relaxed ratio due to have to pedel all of the time.
that said, FG is more fun to ride.

scince i ve been riding drop bars ive never understood how people find riding the hoods comfortable. i ride almost exclusivly in the drops, or by the stem when im relaxing.
maybe my bars are too low, but when i ride the hoods all my weight is on my bent wrists and elbows which just isnt comfortable. i much prefere having straigheter arms in the drops.

i love the origional hetchens inspiration, it probably the best bike ive seen, and yours looks great. thought it looked a bit naff until i saw the painted pictures, looks great.
i love that white forkless bike, i want one!
that song is great, there is an english version called "chick magnet" which i listen to almost daily at the moment. it was in tarantinos death proof, that film has a great soundtrack.

i wear some safety glasses i got with my dremel. i wear them cause the cold salty air plays havoc with my eyes and i get styes which is pretty irritating.
i find that alot of sunglasses block most of the air, but also channel it at a higher pressure into your eyes, so the shape/size is pretty important.
i get some wierd looks when i forget im wearing the safety glasses and walk around with them on.

cant put gears back on, dont want buy a track frame just yet (im well poor). it is indeed a conversion.
i think im going to have to construct my own tug system which i cant screw/bolt to the dropouts. i keep slipping out but im not sure if this is to do with my imperfect chainline, or if it is just going to happen anyway.

hmm, maybe i wasnt looking hard enough :) my current 52 is indeed on an old double chainset and i ride on 27". find this a very comfortable ratio to ride on.
the hills here are a bit mental, but after riding for 3 years on this ratio here ive got very used to it, when im not riding this bike i ride a 50s raleigh with rod brakes which is stupidly heavy which has helped me to get stronger. after riding that for a week anything else feels like riding a razor.
i want somthing that will fit a sugino xd or somthing similar, im not sure that a standard chainring from a double set will fit.

ive been riding a old ss road bike for years before i realised fg even existed and was popular. im cornish, thing take along time to seep down here :) im not too knowledgeable to how gearing ratios work, so bear with me.
i currently ride 52-17, simply because it conviently has a fairly straight chainline. 52-17 isnt a ratio ive seen thrown around on forums much, and cant seem to find any 52t track rings on any sites.
what ratio do you think i go to seeing as this is the gear im comfortable with.

i stripped mine with nitromors, i recommend the stuff in the can, you can layer it on real thick and have it all off in in hour. the spray version will require you try buy 3 or 4 cans and you cant get the thick coating to get it all off in one go.
i didnt use a wire brush, but i did you use a fine wire bit in my dremel for the lugs, and 240 sanding paper to get rid of rust on the tubes
