Where are you all then? I'm over in Carlton, and ride mostly on the east side near Lowdham.
I'll keep an eye out for you all, and an eye out if theres going to be a meet up.Hiding out in the city center generally, quite often a few bikes at the Bodega Social, just take them through to the beer garden.. good music but no food, I like the Alley Cafe very much. Mainly just ride my commute across town, i'll keep my eyes peeled!

Yup, I'm here on a fixed black Kalkhoff, few friends about... Seb on a powder blue Sun jobby, Alistair on a pink with aerospoke and a nice Orange Viner. Some OTP's around too, there has been word of getting some rides together, watch this space.
Oh and fixed all the way, no problems with hills to speak of, always routes around if you don't need quickest route to town.

Slight impulse buy, but I was looking for good tubing..columbus SL is pretty good right? Looks like it's got fairly angular geometry.
Do you think i'll find it easy getting bits for this? and have I missed anything major?
Cheers

fucking came off on my cycle home, just put a burst of speed on to get round a car and chain came off, skidded on pedal and seat (torn to hell) which has skewed round... and into curb. Thats why I need a decent set up because to go fast you need a reliable bike, fucking thing. Pain in the knee, ankle and thigh and possibly wallet.

Ah, but the fixie brigade are all over frame sales like a rash.. Also I need a fair few components... so I thought buy a reynolds tubed light racer and buy a decent set of wheels and off I go... I'm happy with my current bike, but I want something quicker.
Are people sure thats vert drops? This one looks similar but has angled..

Yes, all makes sound sense! My drive side came off while cycling home, so back we go to work and a fixup. I just give up with cotterpins, nothing but trouble. I've spent a good £12 on pins, could've bought a second hand crankset for that price... looking on ebay now, any good simple sets people recommend?

Hi, as a last resort I thought i'd post a hopeful request for some advice on my old bike conversion.
It was riding so well, but slowly it's developed play between each crank. This was due to two reasons, firstly the cotter pins...
This I've just about solved by using large un-filed pins which I've filed down to a minimum to get them as tight as possible.. but I keep finding they get slightly loose and one crank (non-drive side) seems to slip between two slightly different angles on each half revolution..
The other thing i'm not so sure about, must be some play in the BB, but i'm not sure what, i've checked it all out and tried with two BB's and different cups bearings etc... still i get a slight twist in the bracket whilst riding.
If anyones got any advice, or would like to loudly suggest cotter pin cranks are unsuitable for fixed riding generally... please holler.

So apart from looks and geometry what should I look for in a frame, should I be looking at complete bikes to strip down... or just go for the frame? eg. i looked at this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250273512756
Any cheap manufacturers to look at?

Thanks! I'll look into it, I wasn't planning on going for a track frame as they're rather expensive, but a nice lightweight road frame would be fine, just not sure which frames are recommended, obviously looking for good grade steel and a more racing geometry..
I'll keep my eyes on ebay and local bikeshops..
Logo seems different, but look v.similar
