im not talking about a bus lane here, just when it was a single lane road.
so no one has ever cycled to the left of stationary cars? Its the not the best tactic admittedly but getting out of a vehicle in traffic without looking isn't either.

yeah both times the traffic was at standstill. its still a crazy logic. when it happened on oxford street there no access to the pavement either only a metal barrier, which i rebounded onto.

is there a way for passengers on a bus to open the door themselves independently of the driver? Nearly hit a guy today who got off bus when it was stopped but no where near a bus stop. i have also hit a lady previously on oxford street from this.

Probably a good weight distribution should make it less sluggish, you ride with four panniers, two on the back and two on fork?

I just meant sluggish in terms of when I could feel the difference of adding weight had on my effort/speed. 4 panniers offered good flexibility as it meant you never have a lack of space and the bike felt really balanced. I just found they were often only half full. I don't know how you get the same balance front to rear without 4 panniers though.

Bar bags are super handy for touring.

This is the set-up I had in mind.

they make a lot of sense. I could never get my map or snacks out easily while riding. the reach down while riding, unroll ortlieb, eat banana and re-roll, isn't the easiest of manoeuvres.

The weight probably shouldn't matter, I doubt theres much in it.
I think I could only really tell my bike was more sluggish when I had 2-3kg added in the form of extra food/water.

are the the classic design bags like those ostrich and carradice much heavier than the newer style ortlieb bar bags?

I didn't use a bar bag when I went touring recently just 4 pannier bags. Yet I think I could have got away with a bar bag and the rest on the back, which saves substantial weight. But then you've got the conundrum of the front to rear weight being unbalanced.

are any of these cranks still available? looking for miche cranks too

keeping to main routes helps most, if you don't know the small roads they will just slow you down. to get to the strand without regents street, gower street per chance? when you know how main routes link with each other, finding random roads requires remembering only a few details.

why use Oxford st unless you are delivering/shopping there? it's not the best bike route
