after being asked to do the Coast2Coast ride up in the lake district this summer by a friend, my thoughts (and hours researching) of buying a single speed (which would have been fine for my day to day london commutes) have now shifted to buying a racer.
Now, 400-450 seemed an ok amount to spend for a single speed, but im realising it really aint much for a racer. and i dont want to go over 500.
so ive been looking around ebay. just got outbid with 4 seconds to go on a lemond versailles which went for 460 yesterday. annoying.
But i guess my question is, am I better off getting a new scott speedster or a lemond etape (both of which are more than i want to spend) or a better specced second hand bike?
Anyone trying to get rid of a racer in decent condition? or know of someone? wanting to spend 450ish...
its frustrating, cos i just wanna get out riding... but the budget just seems to be going up and up...

Capo is a good frame but the components are poor. You will struggle to find a frameset secondhand... they are pretty rare on the streets as a lot were not sold due to overpricing. This year they are not being sold in euope, much the same as the pista concept.
Badboys are naff. If you are focused & calculate a budget you can build a cheap quality bike from ebay in 2 weeks & it will be much better in the long run
unfortunately i dont really have the knowledge to do this. Unless someone took pitty on me, and was willing to help me out...
but seems like a risky thing to do as a noob...
Regarding the fixed taunts, I havent yet cycled in london, and so to go straight into fixed seems kinda dangerous. id rather have a flipflop so that once im getting more confident 'on the streets', i can switch it up.
edit: badboys might be the ugliest looking frame ever. so no danger of me going for one of those...

yeah, seems the more i read into it, the further i am to making a decision... and the more i think i should spend. not a good look.... might get a new OTP, but 2nd hand seems to make sense financially...
radio wise, ive been helping out at Radio1 and Kiss for months, so im just looking to get a unit/broadcast assistant role somewhere. but been looking for a while and i dont see many positions coming up.... happy days... :S
been looking at gumtree for warehouse places, and looks like alot of them are down hackney wick, or up in 7 sisters. went to a crazy NYE party at some warehouse conversion. i like the look of them, but they aint as cheap as i was hoping... :)

hey, im dave.
ive been lurking on here for a few weeks now but thought id say hello, i got recommended it by someone over on dogsonacid.
Im looking to get a lil single speed badboy, as my body cant handle the skateboarding anymore, and the beginnings of a beer belly is beginning to concern, so rather than cutting down on beer,im hoping commuting to work is the answer...
anyway, I know its not a good look to ask a shit load of questions as a noob, so i wont....
well, just one.... cannondale capo, worth getting second hand? from my research it seems good frame, crap components. yay? aint got the time, money or knowledge to build one myself...ive probably got 400 to spend.
one last thing before i bow out for now, i currently live in stokie and work in Bank, but am currently applying for some shitty paid radio jobs, so im thinking if i get any of them, i might have to move further east for cheaper rent. with all your knowledge, is clapton an ok place to live? recommend anywhere else cheap North or East? and where are all these warehouses i hear about?
well thats probably enough eh.

Hey,
A few weeks back I got my first bike in years off a nice guy from this forum and I've really been enjoying riding again.
After going on a longer bike ride on Monday, when I woke up on Tuesday I had some pain extending my elbow. After googling, it seems this is as a result of locking my elbows as I ride. Since Ive been aware of this, I have tried to bend my elbows at times as i ride, and the pain has subsided somewhat despite my continuing to ride everyday. But, it is more comfortable to lock them at times!
Now, I'm doing the C2C in the lake district in 10 days, so I'm more than happy to have these aches/pains now if they are things that all new riders need to go through for your body to become accustomed to riding.
But, my question is, are these aches/pains normal to go through? Or should I be looking into the fit of the frame/bike and my riding technique? Is it not ok for you to lock your elbows?
thanks
Dave
