yeah that sounds wicked. Thanks very much. Let me know how you get on. And as you say, I'd be happy to donate to the forum...
I can sort you out with an ostentatious (but light) seat-seatpin combo, and I'm sure I have a spare rear wheel off a Giant OCR1 that has a 9 speed cassette.
The saddle's one of those cowprint ones that attach to the pin using a proprietary rail system. The pin's 27.2. Bought it by mistake on Wiggle a few years ago. Only tried it a few times, so it's as good as new.
I think a mate of mine has either the rear or the front wheel in his garage (I'll check which - the other's in my loft). If you're interested I can ping him a mail to see if he's around this w/e so I can pick it up.
Happy to let these go for a donation to the forum, if you think that's reasonable.

So this has taken a slightly unexpected turn... I took the frame into a shop for a service and to replace the parts.
I just got a call and was quoted £470 for parts and labour. That seems a lot of money to be putting into a bike I only every spent £250 for in the first place (albeit second hand). No?
Now, I have the cycle to work scheme, and for £470, I could buy a new bike of the value of almost £800.That seems more sensible no?
I know that I like the current frame, but £470 for a pair of aksiums, cassette, tires, seat post and saddle doesn't seem value for money.

so are they specifically hand-made at that place?
Or the same as these?

Well I think I will replace the parts, but it seems to me it's going to cost atleast 250quid, which is how much I spent on the bike in total to start!
Obviously I am upgrading on wheel-wise... But is that about right? I am abit of a noob when it comes to this stuff...
Shimano RS30 Wheels - £140
[ITM Forged Lite Alu Carbon Seatpost](http://www.cyclingbargains.com/product_info.php/itm-forged-lite-alu-carbon-seatpost-p-630) £30
Shimano 105 Cassette 10-speed £37- - Cassette ratio 11-25*
And then a saddle...considering the San Marco Rolls Classic saddle
Is there anything I could skimp on from that??

I went to a pub quiz at the Duke of Wellington on Balls Pond Road, locking my bike up on BPRoad as the racks at the pub were full.
Having locked my bike up in London for 18 months without any issues, I'd got a little slack, and wasn't removing my front wheel. So I had locked the frame and the front wheel.
When I returned everything not on the D Lock was gone:
- Back wheel with cassette
- Brand new saddle
- Carbon Seatpost
Fuckers. So now I dont know what to do. My bike was a Felt F40 road bike.
Should I just replace these parts? I needed a new wheel set anyway... If so, is anyone selling appropriate parts?
Or should I convert the frame to a fixie and buy a new roadbike on Cycle to work scheme?
Just worried a brand new bike would be even more likely to get nicked than my last one!

Hey guys,
I was hoping to pick your minds about wheelsets. I know its a fgss forum, but you guys have been a big help in the past with my regular roadbike.
BAsically I have been riding the same wheelset for 2 yrs whilst commuting around London on my Felt F80, and they are now truly farked.
it seems stupid not to upgrade somewhat, so looking at spending around 150.
Brands that Ive read about include Mavic, Fulcrum or Kore Gradients...
Now I'm not going to be racing on the bike, but just want something that we last on the roads, and aint a pile of shite.
What you's reckon/recommend?

i think so... I broke a spoke a while back, and from the same incident the wheel bent quite a bit. I took it to a local shop to have the spoke replaced and the wheel straightened, but they struggled to get it true and said it was the best they could do.
since then I have ridden it for another couple months and the wobble seems to have become accentuated (just woke up, brain not working so not sure if that's a real word)

Hello,
I bought a Felt F40 a couple years back off of here and the front wheel is now totally knackered so I'm in the market...
Thing is, I don't know a huge amount about bikes... so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations.... I'm hoping to not spend a huge amount, although it seems to me all the wheels in my price range (ideally no more than £100) are a bit crap.
But hey, maybe for my uses I am ok with a bit crap.
So... any suggestions?
Also, would I have to buy a whole new wheels set or is it cool to just buy a front wheel?
Thanks.
N00b.

Although you guys of course cant be impartial, im interested what your reactions are to this.
I dont know the background story, but the guy getting beaten up doesnt seem all there (like a bit dumb), and it seems a bit harsh.
Filming someone as you beat them up? Taking it to another level.
Anyway, your thoughts?

At our production company, the deadline for documentary ideas is the end of the week, and i was thinking about proposing a piece on the rise of fixed gear bikes and the surrounding subculture.
i suspect you guys are gonna hate as its obvious nothing particularly new to you guys. but i think it would be the kind of thing the radio4 crew would find interesting. without a presenter tho, i guess the show would be harder to sell. and its often useful to have a presenter who people might know .... but didnt know they had an interest in... said subject.
so, any ideas on presenters?
Cheers,
Dave

well, using the fore-arm from saddle to handles technique, my fingers are a good 6-7cm off the handle bars.
so i might try flipping over to see if that helps. if that doesnt work i might have to swap my 100mm stem for a 60mm (or shorter???) stem. ive heard that a shorter stem might make the ride quite twitchy. have you guys with short stems had that experience? if it sorts out the elbow issue tho, im happy to do it.

slight hijack of my own thread, but just spent 40 minutes on the phone with virgin trains trying to book my journey up to workington/whitehaven for the C2C.
Fucking useless. Apparently I have to get a bus from Penrith the rest of the way, so the dude told me to enquire with NREnquiries why there is a bus replacement service... well i later discovered its not a replacement service.... Virgin run the farking service! but virgin cant tell me if i can take my bike on it. arrrrggh! very annoying.
anyone know whether i can just wack my bike on the bus in penrith? wouldnt wanna be stuck there, and be told i cant take my bike... how else are you meant to get there?

arse-wise, its funny, cos its painful for the first few minutes with me and then my arse seems to forget about it. i reckon that one will go away with time.
Saddle and leg extension wise, it seems perfect, but you guys might be right about the stem. I do feel like I might be needing to stretch to the handle bars more than id like, which explains why i lock my elbows. having my hands on top of the breaks, with my arms bent isnt that easy to do/comfortable so ill look into getting a shorter stem.
Thanks.
the bike shop was actually really safe about it. What I was expecting to be an awkward conversation about how tight I was, wasn't awkward at all, and the guy acknowledged he was surprised at the price when he calculated the total.
