Well the purchase was started as a new mountain bike to free up my old one for beater commuting duties. The curiosity in fixed started part way through the build (it took nearly 12 months)
I'm going to stop riding fixed soon because I want to use my mountain bike for what it was intended so i'm rebuilding the old bike :(
But as i said in my first post, the incedents of stike I have had have not caused me any major problems, just raised my heartrate a little. -

I tested the angle on my bike before I set off home last night. At best 30 degrees form upright before strike. Resulted in me being more cautious going round corners last night and this morning :) Lets see how the old/new bike fares when I build it up again in a few weeks, I think I ned some smaller pedals for a start.

Been riding fixed a bit over a year. Had pedal strike maybe 4 times. Firsty time was taking a left turn where the road I turned into immediately had a speed bump. Once on a curb squeezing between a crawling vehicle and an island. A couple of times cranking the bike over too much round a corner/bend. None have caused me to off, the worst of them unnerved me but thats all. I don't think I have a good BB height/crank length combo though.

I'm not sure its that hard to grab your bag of tools and start running. You could leave the helmet because some people lock them to their bikes, and not all of them very well, so a replacement wouldn't be hard to come by if you are a thief. So i'm not convinced it's so clear cut a genuine situation.

But maybe you can help me.
Whats with the increase in gay bikes in London at the moment?
... Basically you now have a situation where both st8 and gay guys are dressed in a very gay way, including hair styles. Lots of eye candy for those of a certain persuasion. And now we have gay bikes!!
I was under the impression that being gay was a state of sexuality. Surely niether clothes nor bikes, or any other object, can be gay. So why everybody else are we arguing again? Just ignore these silly, inflamatory ,off topic comments and carry on taking the piss out of arrospok and their ilk.

I don't know. I guess the answer is find/call a police officer and ask them to intervene.
But then I saw someone about to hacksaw a lock and did nothing. A whole host of thoughts ran through my head and in the end I thought he looked like he could be genuine so I did nothing. As soon as I got back to the office I wished i'd done something. In this case he looked a completely approachable person. But thats the thing isn't it, why no thieves ever get stopped, because no one wants to take the risk of being stabbed or whatever by the thief. You only ever get stories in the paper of some father who stood up to some trouble making youths and got killed for his effort. If there are events of sucess they need to be reported too.And now to derail the thread. What if some thief were to add a lock to your bike while you we're at work, where do you get something to cut your bike free and how do you prove to the police it is your bike you are freeing. Or perhaps you don't need to prove anything because you'll never be challenged.

this nice weather.
Bringing out all the fucking fare weather cyclists. CUNTS!
It took me 15mins to find an empty cycle stand this morning, and the one I've had to use is one I hate because it's in a back street at the rear of a load of building giving potential thieves all the time in the world without chance of being disturbed. I aren't hopefull for having a complete bike this evening. -

I have no first hand experience, when I went SS i was building a new bike with a flipFlop hub, but...
The surly one seems best to me http://www.surlybikes.com/new/spacerkit_pop.html as it comes with most varying size spacers to get your chain line right.
The dmr seems to follow this idea to some extent too http://www.simplythebike.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=192
The on one and others have the two spacers only of slightly different sizes giving only 2 chain line options. Perhaps that is enough and the surly is overkill.

the cheek of helping you to the side of the road...kind of like moving you out of his path.i suppose he was killing two birds with one stone as he probably was checking if you were still alive.
There should be some offence he/she could be done for for that too. What if sam had fractured something in his neck/spine moving him could have paralised him.
hope you heal well sam.

...green langster running a front disc break. is it just me or does that seem like a slight risky thing to do?
What riding a langster? Yes, Insane!
Erm... I don't get why everyone on here thinks disk brakes to be lethal/crazy. Maybe my hope is shit but I don't find it any better at stopping me than a canti'.
That said I think caliper brakes are lethal because the last time I rode a bike with one it was a case of pull the lever and hope the bike stops someday.

and I'll do my best to hit the floor often and hard as I attempt anything which used to be in my capabilities. Hopefully we'll all get back muddy/bleeding/knackered and with stories that'll stay with us for minutes. Maybe even hours if we're lucky ;]
Like jumping over a log at High Beach, in front of all the grannies and kids having a jolly day out in Epping, and landing on your side :)
Yes I finally joined. The uniqlo bike thread made me do it.

I've been refusing to join the forum for a while so as not to waste all my time at work, but i've been managing that ok just by lurking.

I just lost a long reply and i'm too angry to re type it.
Crux of it. The police SHOULD be the fucking answer. That they are not is perhaps more of a problem than bike thieves.
