Cheers guys, this time it's some senn cx300's that have given up on me, already replaced under warranty once, so reluctant to reward them with more business again.
Shures do look sturdy, but perhaps might isolate a little too well, may pick these up, but perhaps not for riding. Think I'll give these soundmagic fellas a go, jack looks sturdy enough. That sugru tip looks exactly what I'm after too!

Getting tired of going through earphones so frequently, so wasteful when the fault is always a loose connection at the stereo jack. Have looked at youtube tutorials about fixing these, but doubt I can make it sturdy enough.
Anyway, can any of you guys recommend a set of earphones that can actually last a while, specifically with a sturdy jack connection?

Am waiting on Genesis to get back to me regarding the steel used in the stays, frame builder I approached to split the frame wanted to know the diameter and grade of steel.
Seems unlikely the frame is entirely 853.
Am also a little concerned that splitting a seat stay combined with a loaded rear rack would perhaps put a lot of stress on the split, not sure if the split becomes a weak point in the frame, or if it's nothing to worry about.

Aha yes TM : http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/frames/adventure/day-one-853
Well not belt drive, but everything else, 853 Reynolds too, and ticks all the boxes, def a contender!
Looks like modifying to belt drive is the way then. Any alternatives that spring to mind other than Pompetamine, Roadrat, Genesis.
Let me know, cheers!

Cheers, dammit - having a peruse of : http://www.carbondrivesystems.com/bikes seems that's the best source for recent belt drive compatible frames.
On the frame-builder front, pal Donny recently put a beauty together: http://www.donhoubicycles.com/davids-super-commuter/
I guess I'm trying to find that balance there always is with a daily use bike. A nice bike to ride, but one I'd still lock up in the rain and not be petrified about.

Slowly formulating plans for a bit of a low maintenance, nippy commuter. Keen to try belt drive, ideally with a hub gear, most likely Alfine 8. Possibly disc brakes, (unsure about this).
Looking for frame suggestions
I understand the retrofit option, but first call would be seeing if there was a suitable belt-drive compatible frame. Had a good google, but most results seem to be posts from a few years back.
The BMC AC01 is close to what i'm trying to achieve, but is a bit flashy. Ideally I'm after more classic geometry - and the ability to mount full mudguards and a rear rack (the BMC fails at this).
The Pompetamine ticks most of the boxes, but isn't belt-drive compatible - and i'd be happy to spend a bit more than £130 on a frame.
The Roadrat is a similar option.
Any advice or suggestions appreciated. Shall update this thread with progress as it comes.

Have a big-ass cardboard bike box going in Clapton, E5. Just took delivery today, box in strong condition, with internal cardboard wheel chocks.
Gonna be sticking it out with the recycling otherwise, but know these boxes come in handy with flights etc., so anyone welcome to it - PM me and I can give you address.
