was wondering whether anyone had a recommendation for replacement nuts for my plug. the reason is that someone (me) has rounded off one or two of the angles on my existing ones making taking my bike apart and vice versa a pain in the arse.
ideally same width (15mm?) on front and back - don't know if that is standard?simon

Welcome! This is one of the biggest repositories of fixed advice going. There is a search function which will likely yield much info very quickly, including the OTP list threads in 'bikes and bits' which cover the range of off the peg stuff. If it isn't covered by the search, could revive this thread.

if you were to do a composite photo of broken bones/injuries I would be quite happy/able to add tags/commentary to each part - something along the lines of mechanism of injury, treatment, time off bike etc. Don't know if that's a good idea or not..........
Also wonder if a LFGSS on tour page would be good - london to brighton, oxford polo, isle of wight etc
I have no 'creative side' so looking forward to seeing the results.

Howdy. Was on a daytrip to London's famous London and noticed a matt black frame locked to the railings with Krypto Mini. ALL other parts had been stripped. I know nothing about frames when they don't have identifiable stickers on them, but as I say was matt black with track ends. Thought it might be someone's, or a nice pillage. Didn't look bent but didnt examine much. Locked to railings on Baker St on corner with Marylebone Rd.

Have tried the search but can't track down an article I think was mentioned here a while back...
Basically involved a 'normal' club cyclist going to a doctor in US and trying EPO, HGH, steroids etc and discussing the effects.
Googling only generates boring forums....... about how to get MASSIVE!Thanks guys.

agreed this sounds like quadriceps insertion inflamed - enthesitis is the word I think. Along with achilles and biceps tendons one of the things you really don't want to hurt seriously as fixing surgically is triscky. http://imaging.consult.com/topic/Quadriceps-Tendon-Rupture/S1933-0332(06)70951-X seems to describe the common mechanism of injury - in layman's terms trying to straighten a flexed knee against too high a force. being an utter fakenger I'm no expert but this sounds like the sort of injury sustained with skidding fixed (or in a lesser way by gunning a high ratio. Never easy to give internet advice but a run-of-the-mill doctor is unlikely to understand the difference between cycling and cycling fixed (never mind skidding). A physio will be able to help in diagnosis and treatment. A sports medicine doctor will probably clarify the diagnosis and recommend further investigations. These are often best accessed through a physio too although your GP can refer you to a knee clinic thru the NHS.
hope this is helpful.

with the usual disclaimers along the lines of go to a doctor, can't comment without seeing the injury....
this sounds like fluid within a bursa (pocket) that sits over the bony bit of your femur ie the greater trochanter.
it normally has a small amount of lubricating fluid in it to allow smooth movement of the bone as the hip moves. If injured it fills with fluid - presumably as a Darwinian protective cushion.
In itself not a problem. If infected a big problem potentially. Main signs are overlying redness (particularly spreading), worsening pain, or limited movement of joint. May take some time to resolve. In other parts of the body is Housemaid's knee (knee), olecranon bursitis (elbow). A doctor (A+E or orthopaedic) can usually discern the difference between this and a haematoma which is a collection of blood below site of injury. May need an ultrasound to look at it. General premise is not to drain an uninfected area as sticking a needle into something may introduce bugs.Sorry about biblically long post. Not mean to be exhaustive or diagnostic.
Short answer - prob worth seeing A+E at some point, or quicker if worsening.Hope it gets better - PM if you want any further info
doc_si@stein - if these things have pus in them they will benefit from drainage. agree that plasma/'clean' fluid within will generally not

The Belgians will often bore you to tears, then distract you with the old 'name a famous Belgian who's not Eddy Merckx' gambit, then nick your whip. The Russians muscle in on your domestic disturbance, 'protect' your wife then destroy your whip. The Chinese wait until a worldwide spectacle is on, then send you for a holiday in the Gobi desert, then steal your whip. Oh... and the Scots denigrate everyone else, then steal your whip and ride off... drunk...before buckarooing over the bars.

Riding about 100 miles/wk fixed and quite enjoying not being in clipless compared with my geared whip. Relatively new to fixed and would really appreciate advice about the best shoes for riding in toeclips. Daft I know but my laced trainers aren't ideal.
thanks
