Chapeau to Kat & Charlotte who won the ladies prizes (and the team event overall?).
Thanks NG. We both had an utterly fantastic day of racing. What pure and unadulterated madness! And yes, we did win the overall team event at 104 laps.
Results are up - http://www.theknutsfordgreatrace.co.uk/I had my biggest penny crash ever when the bike I was drafting threw its tyre, collapsed and I went over the top of it...
My knee & elbow look like tenderised steak, but other than that, fine.Oh no. Did you do an 'imperial crowner'? Glad you are ok. Where did it happen?
No - that was just on the second lap - the chap in that broken both arms... (and the fast rider was disqualified).
I saw this later on video. Shocking to hear the rider broke bones. I saw other crashes such as the NZ rider who hit the wooden barrier on the tight far corner. The noise was like a car crash. He bounced off and impressively got straight back on before the rest of us piled up. Fortunately the organisers had covered the steel points on the fence so he didn't skewer himself. I also saw chipped teeth, split lips and chins, a broken finger and other random scrapes and blood loss. It was amazing how pennies (original and replica) were disintegrating with the sheer force of rider power.
Penny racing....FTW

Boo - I'm out of town working all weekend. I'm so disappointed as I really enjoyed the ride last year (despite breaking penny and walking it home) and was so looking forward to a lovely sunny sunday pedal with all of you. Oh, well.....next time.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Yes, I agree. There are many different experiences to be had in the same place but I just thought it was striking that a city I remember as a pretty idyllic place to cycle was represented so clearly otherwise. But there are crap and dangerous drivers everywhere and I am very sorry to hear about your friend's accident. That sounded nasty! I love cycling in London, but I find it personally more challenging than I remember Adelaide to be. But that is me and I think you are pretty darn lucky living over there. Hope you are enjoying rides like that one up Mount Lofty. I miss it.
There may even be a womens range at some point. And without any reference to genitalia!
That's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing how you might associate bikes and vaginas!

Two questions;
- Where can I buy a Penny Farthing?
- Can I please, please, please have a ticket for next year already?
I can help point you in the right direction for question No.1. Maybe PM me and we can talk in more detail as it depends if you want a new-ish robust replica for racing, touring and urban everyday riding or you are after an original ordinary. Have you ridden one yet? You are most welcome to pop by and have a ride on my pf. Great news that you want one - the more the merrier!

Olly - beat me to it! The 'gun' is his cock.
A reference to 'having balls'. Here in Aus, esp in Adelaide, you are 100% going to receive verbal abuse by people every time you are seen riding a bike. There's also a high chance that you will get hit by a car, by accident or even on purpose. The shirt is kind of a big 'fuck off' to the huge numbers of anti-cycling public we meet on a day-to-day basis.
I appreciate your initiative to make cycling wear but.....
I don't know where, or how, you are cycling in Adelaide to give that impression. I lived there for more than a year and I cycled everywhere on all types of bikes (2006-2007 and I've regularly visited since then). I had absolutely NO trouble whatsoever. Adelaide is a fantastic place to cycle with its extraordinary wide streets, amazing weather and very little traffic. (Sydney is a different story!) I certainly did not need 'balls' to ride there and, in my opinion, a shirt that yells out an association between bike + 'cock' is pretty unappealing.

/\ Took some photos of yesterday/last night.
Thanks - that's a great pic of me, though I look like I am concentrating pretty hard.
Banking was surprisingly easy on the big wheel, it was just the headwind on the back straight that made everything go a bit wobbly.
It was a shame the racing was cut short by the rain, but it was great to meet some of you at the pub afterwards.

you coming to manchester? if yep then i'll check the date..it was a random guess at when it might be good, it'll be over that wekend though
bruce, who does loads of welding will be there, with his welder to help. Plus I'll ask my friend who has a tall bike and who is starting to build frames
Boo. That'll teach me not to read threads properly. Sorry, I would love to join in a mass-freakbike-build day (I really need a customised trailer), but I'm not sure about the feasibility of getting to Manchester. I'm not saying no, but..... sigh.

I agree with you. Learning to TIG is a very useful skill and no doubt produces a much stronger join. But it is damn hard and I fully respect those who can make those gorgeous crescent welds. Mine looked more like bird shit, though to be fair I've not done 20 hours and my experience has so far been with an old style mask which means I'm familiar with setting fire to my trousers and hair. In comparison MIG felt miles safer, easier and much more productive. And my MIG'd bikes are still holding together.
