just got back did the induction which is useful in terms of track etiquette, but it was too busy today to really learn very much, then had a crack at the second session, but gave up after two races in the intermediate group, as i'm cream crackered!
found that as soon as you lost a wheel everyone just shot off, despite the fact that i was quite comfortably in the first few people for the first half of the race.
really good fun and cheap as chips, well worth a go
Great morning in the sun, was a great laugh cycling over there and seeing al the crazy people who stroll round london at 8am on a saturday morning!

right thats 1/3rd of the project decided then,
bob jackson frames - go with standard or should i try to get them to build me with the oversize tubing they usually reserve for bigger ones, just as i want something a bit stiffer and have heard that they can be a bit wobbly around the BBs
anyone got any thoughts on chainsets?
-
Echo that, i think i've decided on a Bob Jackson, predominatly becuase i've only realy heard good things about them, whats the general consensus, and does anyone have a little one i could try out? i'm about 5'8" on a good day thinking 52 or 54 would be about the right size.
want a bike thats bullet proof so thinking phil wood/mavic cxp 33 wheelset, hubjub looks like a good deal, anyone got any experience of them?

Ok thanks for the advice guys, gonna take the route closest to the river i think, going over shooters hill, theough strood, rochester sittingbourne etc, will make a list of turns etc for anyone who wants to come, gonna meet at the blackheath entrance to greenwich park at 10 on sunday for anyone who wants to come along.

haha yeah, as i said fairly spur of the moment, having done a bt more research decided the tdf route is a bit far for an easy-ish sunday ride so going to follow this route...roughly

Bit of a spur of the moment thing but a friend and i are plannng to ride from greenwich to canterbury this sunday busy planning the route at the moment but its looking at between 60 and 65 miles, plus i hear there are several nice sainsbury's in the cantebury, and there are apparently some good ice cream shops for motivation once we are there!
There are a few climbs on the way ( enough for david millar to win the king of the mountains jersey) but i think its mostly flat.
So basically loking for any advice from anyone who has done a similar route, and to invite anyone who is up for it, planning on setting off at about 10, i'll be riding fixed, friend will be doing with a few gears.

know i havent been to drinks yet, but could easily be persuaded as i'm back in south london soon, voting for the rose and crown as it's one of my work hang outs, great thai food.... any takers for the princess of wales in blackheath, bike friendly as there is a massive heath to sit on in the near company of bikes, plus a good hill to ride up on the way to it to aid in not feeling guilty for sinking a few pints

haha cheers eyebrows!
hmmmm time and money i have, been saving up for a dream geared bike for the last year, but after reaching the £2500 mark and testing some around that they just dont match up to the fixie
So think that with a stiffer, better fitting frame, and some really nice wheels would blow my mind so if i spend perhaps half my pot i can get a decent fixed and get an ok road bike too for serious adventures in the stix

Hi all, well as promised here i am on the forum, seems as though my nickname has already been decided before i arrived!
Sorry about the quick exit yesterday, i'd broken a couple of spokes on the rear wheel, and wanted try and get some new ones by today or id be stuck having to walk places or rely on public transportfor a few days!
Got the train with roberto and mareeoh, then found a random bike shop on whitchapel, managed to get some new spokes, finally made it to sainsbury's at about 5, it ended up being about a 60 mile round trip just to get some eggs and bread!
Had such an awesome time, you guys are awesome, the story has resulted in several beers being bought for me already, i will definitely coming on some future rides!
hopefully i'll be a bit better prepared next time and not have to scrounge of you guys for water, biscuits etc, cambridge sounds great, count me in already!
God you guys are slow!
Hands up, i turned up in geared transportation, what can i say!!?
but in my defence i didnt realise that i could go under the foot tunnel, checked it out btw RJS, and it is def open all night long. thanks for the tip, will be there next week on less politically incorrect transportation as its not a 30 mile round trip!
good to see people last night, shame there was no time trial action, especially given hillbilly bringing along a 13t sproket to try and go sub 2 minutes!
