I'm no expert on this but, from what I understand, banks are entitled to levy charges on you in line with their terms and conditions (updated versions of which they MUST send you). However, those charges must be fair and proportionate - £30 for a standard computer-generated letter is neither.
Over the last couple of years, people have been going through the process of reclaiming unfair charges using template letters available on numerous websites. I believe there have been legal challenges from the banks, though most seem to just pay up and - if the jury is proverbially still out - it appears to be favouring the customer.
One problem I have heard of though, is of banks paying up and then closing accounts. Not an issue if you're in credit and can take your business elsewhere. But if you have a significant overdraft, you could find yourself having to find a way of repaying it fairly quickly. Plus all the hassle of setting up standing orders, direct debits, etc. with another bank. And if your finances are half as chaotic as mine........

Surely this is the third time in a week we've gone through this? Seems to me that people get so pissed off with bad service that they want to vent their anger on the forum, which isn't that unreasonable. But, the affect of venting (in terms of the shop's rep) might be disproportionate to the "offense" - catching someone on a bad day, one twat amongst generally good staff, genuine mistake......
It makes more sense to pursue the issue to whatever conclusion with the shop, and let them put it right, before going public. If they're still shit, I have no problem with sharing it with whoever.

they give you a card with the lock stating the key number and details about what to do when u need a replacement. ANYway all Abus locks come with a spare key ;)
Yeah, but I didn't keep the card (told you I was dumb). I've got the spare, but want to get another before I lose that - see a pattern here?

I'm a builder (yeah, don't all shoot me at once). If someone asks me to change a lightbulb (they don't) or install a cantilevered floating staircase - per hour (not that it will take me an hour to change the bulb, but you get my drift) my time costs the same. But I put an unqualified labourer onto the simple jobs and charge for their time accordingly and put more skilled/experienced/qualified people onto the more complex stuff and charge considerably more.
My guess is that bike shops charge the same amount for any repairs or servicing they do, irrespective of how simple, because the same people do the work and they've calculated an hourly rate based on wages, overheads, profit, etc. As others have said, if you can't fix it yourself, then this is what you're gonna pay....

I ride my bicycle, scooter and various big motorbikes round London on a daily basis.
When i am on my bicycle the twats who get to me are the people who have just gone and bought a hybrid commuter for the summer and have no idea how to ride and get in the way of everyone else, along with the f++ck wits on scooters who ride up the inside of cars by the curb rather than filtering on the outside as they should do . .
When i am on my scooter the thing that f@@ks me off more than anything else is when some c@nt of a cyclist decides to cycle down the middle of the road in slow traffic, getting in the filtering space of motorcycles. Not only are they slowing me down, but they are putting themselves and other road users in danger . .
When i am on my Motorbike the thing that f++ks me off the most is the idiots on the scooters who have done a days training (cbt) and have no concept of how to ride safely on their underpowered 50cc pieces of sh!t, and are a danger to me and themselves . .
My point is that every other mode of transport is in your way whatever you happen to be riding/driving/pedaling . . though i would say that the most dangerous group of road users is cyclists, because we are the ones who take no notice of the majority of road laws, and also have no common training which means road users know how each other will behave. I have lost count of the number of cyclists i have nearly killed on Clerkenwell road in rush hour who cut in between cars and in front of filtering motorbikes without looking first. A lot of the accidents i see, and a lot of the accidents that my cycling friends have are by their own admissions avoidable if they hadnt been riding like a twat. I know that when i ride my bike i take way to many risks, but to me that is part of the buzz of riding around London.
I was at Bristol Uni when they bought in the same Bus Lane rules in, and it made no difference to riding my bike, and made motorcycling a lot safer. There has been a nation wide campaign run by MCN, the UK's biggest motorbike rag for the past decade to get this law in various cities. I think this is a great move, and cannot see how it is going to make my pedaling life any more dangerous, as from what i can tell the roads are in such a state of chaos already that it doesnt matter what you do, its still a lottery as to whether you end up in a hospital bed or your own bed at the end of any journey.
Having worked as a motorcycle courier , i can tell you that they are probably amongst the most considerate road users out there, and thier rivalry exists with taxi drivers, not cyclists.
Rant over
Spot on! I ride a big motorcycle too, but not often in London, too frustrating. In my experience, experienced motorcyclists are the best riders/drivers due to the number of near-death moments they have. Generalisation I know, but a very good one......

In what way did they feel different?
Difficult to say really, the hanzo was just more comfortable for me - probably the slightly different geometry suited me better. You'll need to allow for putting decent pedals on it and upgrading the chain. And if you do go for the hanzo, I would suggest swapping the wheels. I went for the bullhorns as I ride my geared bike with drop bars in the way you describe. I was half-expecting to swap them but, so far, I've liked riding with them.
Go on, you know you want to.....
-
I recently bought a hanzo from pearson, but with the wheels they supply with the touche. I rode both and just preferred the feel of the hanzo. You could save some money on the frame and spend that on some upgrades or kit. Both are nice though and the service is good - nice friendly shop, knowledgeable staff, terrible location!

Maybe - the reality is, neither of my boys would ride a pink Barbie bike. Whether or not I should encourage them to, to challenge gender-stereotyping, is another matter. The reality is that I don't have a lot of spare cash and the bike will have to earn its keep.
It's interesting though. With 3 kids - a girl and 2 boys - we were determined that the whole girls and Barbie, boys and guns thing wouldn't happen. Once they start school, much of it is out of your hands, and you just have to ensure that you don't reinforce it too much at home. Fortunately (or not), my girl's favourite colours are now yellow and black?! She seems to be over pink....

[QUOTE=Vinz; If your little girl wants a pink bike with Barbie Stickers then get her one. I doubt she will care how much it weighs or what it is made of.[/QUOTE]
I don't think she does actually - and if she does, she's not getting it - I need to be able to pass it on to her youngest brother when she grows out of it. I took a look in Apex and Evans in Clapham today and there's a pretty good choice.
Bloke on a light blue condor heading south from Stockwell (turned off b4 Clapham North) at 3ish today, and then a guy and gal on something black and something pink heading the other way. Didn't get a good view as I was driving my truck having put my worldly possessions in storage....
