LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
I am afraid I have discovered this rather late in the day.
First, a huge thank you to VB / @Velocio for everything that he has done to create and foster this community over the years. We have learnt together, laughed together, healed together, grieved together and most of all we have ridden together. I owe VB and this community so much. I learnt so much about cycling on here and used that knowledge to develop my love for and obsession with cycling. I have made so very many great friends on here and have been given such great opportunities by knowing those people.
I don't know where this goes now but I hope that we can preserve some of that community in some way. London is a wonderful city and allows for communities that arise from shared passions more that geographical location. One might never speak to a neighbour but can be cheered by nod, a wave or a DAS from a fellow forumunger when many miles from home.
Thank you VB. Thank you.

So after a year of tests and consultations, I am about to begin treatment for my psoriasis arthritis including carpal tunnel syndrome. The consultant has decided to seek to avoid surgery by prescribing a course of methotrexate over the next year. I had a 45 minute consultation with a nurse who has been assigned to monitor my progress in which she told me how to take the drug and discussed side effects and lifestyle changes necessary in order to cope with the drug.
I had seven phials of blood taken for more tests and, as soon as the results are back, I can start taking the drug.
Among the side effects is a 3% chance of losing my hair and a good likelihood of nausea and foggy-headedness for two days after each weekly dose.
Good news is that I can exercise and indeed exercise is encouraged. Not such good news is that, despite me having dropped 25kg since mid July, she told me to lose more weight.

Update. Now 600g off my original goal. 24.4kg gone or about 20% of my bodyweight. Since 24 July.
I have a hospital appointment next week about an anti-arthritis drug that I have to take for the next year in an attempt to avoid surgery. Side effects include possible loss of hair and, more worryingly, appetite suppression, a tendency to gain weight and foggy headedness for a couple of days after each weekly dose. Will ask what I should do to maintain my new trim figure.
Although I have almost hit my goal, there is still work to do on some belly fat and in building muscle. That is more in the arena of fat loss than weight loss.
I am now down to a weight that I suspect most of you would start from!

It would have the Espresso Library but that was forced to close last month thanks to Tory mismanagement of the economy.
Instead we are heading for a photo at a sculpture in Parker’s Piece.
We set off at 8am and I would be delighted if we did it in five hours but it could be a little slower depending on who comes along and who needs to stop and how often.

would leave most people feeling extremely hungry, all the time?
Empty, fatigues, occasionally lightheaded but I am over hunger. The rive to lose weight and the results trump hunger. I find I can exercise without worry.
In the past I tried Ozempic which was a disaster and didn't work. I feel less hungry now and have fewer cravings.

Without wanting to sound too negative, I'm not sure the process you have described to lose weight would count as easy for many. How much does the personal trainer and gym subs cost? How can eg. a parent to a young child, working full time, find the time for 5 gym sessions and 300km of cycling a week?
Not to mention that 1500 calories a day, especially with that amount of exercise, would leave most people feeling extremely hungry, all the time?
I would suggest a better description might be that losing weight is simple - your picture of a very strict diet and lots of exercise is after all not revolutionary - but still, very difficult
Gym £23 a month because i am over 60 and it is a council leisure centre. Trainer £50 an hour. I am self employed and so do what I want when I want. The summer months were good as work was less pressing. Less easy now.

I started a weight loss programme in mid July.
I use a food diary - MyFitnessPal - and have a personal trainer. I am cycling around 2-300 Km a week and working out 4 or 5 times a week in the gym, two of them with the trainer. I only do weights and stretching in the gym. No cardio.
I am restricting my calories intake to around 1500 calories a day however many I burn. I have porridge with oat milk at breakfast but no other carbs. I eat chicken, eggs, halumi and non oily fish as protein as well as veg, salad and fruit.
I have lost 19kg so far with another 7kg to go.
Losing weight is easy. The difficulty is (1) starting the process and (2) keeping it off.
The second challenge will soon be facing me.

The London Clarion Cycle Club has asked me to cordially invite members of LFGSS to join a fixed/single speed ride to Cambridge.
https://www.londonclarion.org.uk/event-details/fixed-wheel-single-speed-london-to-cambridge
The London Clarion is affiliated to both the National Clarion and National Clarion 1895 and has as its objects mutual aid, good fellowship and the advancement of the principles of socialism.
The ride will be at a very social pace.
A number of members of the forum are also members of London Clarion. We would dearly like to increase that number.
You don't have to be a London Clarion member to join the ride but it would be nice if you considered it. Membership is only £15.

One of the best days on here was the day when @Velocio did his “Sponsored by Specialized” hoax.
