Cancelled. Felt sorry for the chap on the phone who was must have been dealing with constant calls. He was very polite and helpful.
This was the last straw. The transphobia, the ludicrous “don’t cycle on funeral day” and now this. It means my racing career is over but I’ll have to come to terms with that.

I am very sad to bring the news that Mick O'Rorke has died of his injuries following a road traffic incident while out cycling with the CTC near Bintree in Norfolk. Mick was a member of and regularly rode with the London Clarion.

A question if I may.
We went away for a weekend using my wife’s car. I popped my new Brompton in the boot.
When we got home I took my folded Brompton into the house and next day unfolded it.
This plastic bit dropped out. I can’t find anywhere on the Brompton that it might fit and suspect that it might simply have got lodged in the bike somewhere. Could anyone tell me if it is a Brompton component and if so what or, hopefully, it is something altogether unrelated. I have ridden the bike a few times since and nothing seems to be missing.

In a live video Q&A, James Houston described the CP4 Parcours. He rode about 400 metres of it but decided that it was simply unsafe to ride any more and so walked the equivalent of a marathon pushing his heavily laden bike. He said he was concerned about damaging his bike and about coming off, breaking a bone and being left lying there until someone passed. There was no phone signal on the parcours. The latter (and possibly the former) problem would not have been an issue for those at the pointy end of the race as other riders were on their heels and they would have been found soon. James's issue was compounded by the aftermath of heavy rain that fell just before he got there and turned much of the parcours into a deep muddy quagmire.
He also said that he would never ride the TCR again as the danger from trucks and traffic was too great. He will be riding the Pan Celtic again.

Interestingly, Ors has ridden 4203 km to James's 4559 km and so, even allowing for the gap currently between them, has routed over 200 km shorter. James is averaging 185 km per day whereas Ors is on 171 km. I am presuming that James has taken a less hilly route. They are both in the 25th day of their race.
James lost much of a day at the start when his rear triangle broke.
If you were a member for the liability insurance, London Clarion gives membership and that for a total of £15 and the opportunity to join in some very slow and social rides.
