Since my back wheel got nicked a few weeks ago and my student loan is due in a couple of weeks, its time for me to get a new wheel. Ive had a look at the list of hubs and all that shizzle, so as i see it:

goldtec - general all rounder - not too expensive and will take abuse
level - great hubs, but proprietary cogs
phil - shiny...
dura ace and record - need more maintenance because theyre not sealed?

probably looking mainly between phil/level/goldtec but just wondering if anyone has a particularly strong opinion on one over the other (or obviously knows of any ridiculous bargains to be had)

i know how you feel - got my rear wheel knicked from outside UCL a week or two ago - vintage campy record hub on mavic MA3 (or whatever they were called before open pros). so demoralising because its my fault for not buying another lock and all it took was for someone to walk past with an adjusatable spanner while i was listening to some moron give a presentation. gutted.

at least it gives me an excuse to get a new wheelset in the summer...

use quattros and eggbeaters and like them both - there was some warning about using eggbeaters while brakeless because apparently theyre easy to come out of but ive never found it - recently went back to my quattros which were sitting on my (fucked) geared bike gathering dust and theyre a lot more comfy than the eggbeaters.

there was a study done a while ago that said that having one or two pints after football is actually more rehydrating than water/lucozade/gatorade whatever

obviously the effectiveness goes down a little when you get towards 10 pints or so

ive got some 42cm pursuit bars (cheaper nitto rb-021 essentially) but im thinking of getting the 38cm rb-021s once hubjub has them in stock, partly because the bullhorns point in diff directions thanks to some falls and crashes, and partly because i have a feeling (based on nothing but a hunch) that narrower ones may be more comfortable.

my clearance was too tight for a dual pivot brake, so i had to look on ebay for a single pivot 105. i think the model no is BR 1050 or something, has a 39-49mm drop.

EPO is used as a valid treatment in cancer so even if he was smashing the EPO in while crippled by chemotherapy, fair play to him.

It a good training routine - get cancer, lose weight, including 'unnecessary' upper body strength, smash EPO in to conteract anaemia caused by the poison being pumped into you, build up cycling specific muscles, win lots of TdF, divorce wife, replace smashing EPO to smashing sheryl crow, kate hudson, etc.
