Hi DuncanW - I will usually post up pretty quick when something's been sold and then close the thread.

no probs Chris, let's see when the time comes. I'd be up for a sweet deal on the wheels and cranks if the frame buyer was interested in the first instance.
er.. I figure £300 seems a lot to some people so as I say, happy to hear offers on pm - but please do consider the individual prices of this quality of headset and bb, they ain't cheap in this condition. An equivalent frame would cost you an awful lot these days of course...

F&F NOW SOLD
This is one of the most beautiful frames I ever did see. I think the photos pretty much speak for themselves. It's stamped 86381 on the Cinelli bb which makes it 1985/86. It's Columbus SLX. It was apparently ridden just 3 or 4 times before being put away somewhere and the paintwork really does confirm this. There are one or two light scratches to the chainstay chrome and annoyingly it got itself a tiny paint chip on the downtube during transit but that's pretty much it. However, when I got it the reason for its inactivity started to become clear.
The original forks, it seems, were squeezed to cope with an 80mm front hub. I searched around and Mavic did one at the time - for a short period in time trialling it wasn't unheard of to try and increase your aero advantage with the resulting narrower wheel profile. However, it was a bit more unheard of to squeeze beautifully made 100mm Roberts forks to fit it. I can't be 100% sure that's what happened so hold that lawsuit, but that was the conclusion after a fair chat with someone based in Croydon who would know about these things.
Anyway, in the end I decided not to try and get the forks rectified. They could be set back to their original 100mm, but after discussion there was a chance it might have got a bit complicated and they might not be as perfect as they were. So instead I sourced a pair of NOS 531 forks with a 'Cinelli' crown which are beautiful in themselves and match the frame really well, then got these fitted and the headset and bb serviced properly.
Then it's remained unbuilt and unridden as I've had other things I needed to spend money on. And now I can't hang on for a couple of months any more to get money together and no matter how meekly it keeps itself to itself in the corner of the room, the money tied up in it could be put to better use right now.
SO to the sale:
Frame - two tone metallic cobalt blue / puce (the photos are pretty good). Exquisite fillet brazing and stunning paintjob. Gold decals with red outline. Chrome chainstay and rear dropouts.
700c front and rear
Seat tube c-t 61cm; Top tube c-c 56cm. Because of the shortish top tube I'd say this could be suitable for people anywhere from 5'9'' - 6'1'' depending on your inside leg etc.Seat post diameter 27.2mm
Rear spacing 126mm, vertical dropoutsForks - NOS 531 chromed, campagnolo ends. But I will also include the original 700c Columbus chromed Roberts forks, which are in superb condition and are a thing of beauty, frankly. You can then decide if you'd like to try and get them re-set to 100mm.
Also included are the Campagnolo C-Record headset and (I'm not sure it's Super Record as I was told so I'm being conservative) I think a Nuovo Record bottom bracket. I'm fairly sure these were fitted new with the frame and are also in great condition.
