Just got them on with the help of two blunt knives.
Worked really well. To think, that's what worked in the end. My fingers are torn to shreds though from all the attempts.
Now to get brakes that have a very shallow drop and my project will be rideable. I had Shimano 600 calipers but they are pinching below the braking surface!
Thanks for the advice. To think, an entire build from scratch, including the wheels, and the only bit I struggle with is getting the tyres on!

I'm just about ready to throw my bike out of the window and have a nervous breakdown.
WHY are my rims not accepting any tyres. My fingers are red and almost bloodied, im extremely sweaty. There are scratches in my shiny new braking surfaces due to using metal tyre levers after breaking plastic ones.
700c rims with a 13mm inner diameter should take 700 x 23 tyres right?!! Surely, what am I not seeing? I've bought Vittoria Rubinos and now Michelin Spedium 2s and neither is going anywhere near the rim.
I've tried every technique and tip online.
I'm starting to think I have a manufacturing fault on my Rigida DP18s. But then again, I have two rims from completely different batches (bought from separate places) and theyre just the same.
What the hell do I do?? ARGH

Well that's easy. It looks like a swarm but the earth is so big that they're miles apart, an being flown by highly trained professional people whilst being watched using radar and gps transceivers with software that sounds alarms if they get too close. Plus most are being pilotted by computers in the first place - which think faster than us.
Computer driven cars would reduce accidents but then there'd be no blame. Simply doesn't work in a compensation society.

I'm on the lookout for some nice tyres for a project I'm just coming to the end of. I'm sick of punctures so something rugged but fast would be nice. Just thought I'd ask here in case anyone has any going before I turn to the shops.
I can pay in cash, beer, coffee or whatever other currency you happen to accept.
Cheers!

That's good to hear! I'm about to switch to fixed, coming to the end of my first fixed project as my current frankenbike is just beginning to become unroadworthy.
I want to build up a practical, cheerful hack bike using cheaper parts though, just for general getting around, so this frame would be ideal.

I wouldn't mind having a go at it if robadob doesn't take it. Hope you're still fit and well though.
EDIT: Seems like it's just the frame, possibly the brake calipers, crankset, rear wheel that are salvagable. Would make a good project for a second/everyday bike I've been looking out for. Just my size too.

bought a solid seatpost for £2, free end plugs. Thanks! I have no idea who you are on the forum though.
