Thanks. Perhaps I wasn’t clear. I had two SystemSix’ some clear coat which failed and Cannondale replaced it, with a Liquigas team frame. When the varnish on that failed as well, the SuperSix had replaced it but Cannondale refused to replace my Systemsix with a SuperSix I accepted the offer of a Six, yes, the first Taiwanese carbon Cannondale which was absolute junk. I found this for a bargain price expecting it to be rubbish. It is anything but !!!! Brilliant bike. Stoked beyond words !

The problem with these things is that they are super inflexible. I had a pair of Sidis which felt like they’d be perfect in a prang but like they might actually cause me to have a prang. Adventure boots are more flexible than those bad boys in my opinion. Great for off road but not for on road in my opinion. Having said that solid capable boots are what I wear every time I go out.

K75 clutch shouldn't be too heavy, change the cable would be a good start, £30 and an hour of faff and should be golden.
RT to commute through London on though ? Too bulky for me, it did for my 1150GS, I'd lose the fairing and panniers and stuff and ride it naked.
Lovely engine that though, smooth and sweet. -

I am in complete agreement with Airhead, buy second hand, Rukka will last a lifetime and then some. I bought a pair of BMW textile trousers, goretex brand waterproof (black, so not like some garish adventure suit) with all the D30 armour in it off ebay for £5 !! They are immense, like brand new. I also got a full set of Held Goretex jacket and trousers, with armour and thermal layer, worn, but in excellent condition, a set of Rausch gloves, brand new helmet for £130. Chucked the goretex in the wash with reproofing solution, like brand new. There are some serious bargains out there, tons of Rukka for buttons as well. FBM is a good place to look.

My first bike was an RG250 (in Australia) first time I gave it beans I almost went straight on at a 60 degree right hander. I remember shouting at myself to lean, the thing gripped and took off round the corner like a scalded cat.
Replaced the day after I got my licence with an RG500. Terrifying in such a good way. But I wasn’t long for this world on that lunatic fringe !! So….Then came the Italians into my life. 500 Pantah first. The bike I wish I still had, followed by (sigh) a Mike Hailwood Rep, 900. Don’t miss it as much as the Pantah but by God that was some bike. Not one for the round town though !!!
But if I could have any back it would be the RG250 or the Pantah. They were special bikes.
And now, it’s the R65 and I won’t get rid of that lightly. It is something lovely.

Thanks all for the positive affirmations. I love the bike and the way it rides. My last bike was an 1100GS and this thing feels tiny in comparison, just what I wanted. Now I want to find another one to restore and maybe customise it a bit. Anyone know of one not stupid money ? (Because it costs a shit ton to fix these things even with free labour!!!)

ITS FINISHED !!!
The shed built (quite literally in a shed on the Isle of Harris) BMW R65LS (missing all the LS bits:-( ) is completed. Passed its MOT yesterday. Did I say pass or sail through with flying colours ? Oh yes it was the latter.I had never so much as changed the oil in anything and this thing was fooked ! Stripped to frame. Rebuilt carbs, fuel taps, new lines, cleaned and stripped inside of tank, rebuilt entire braking system (all new), sorted wiring, cleaned, treated and painted the frame etc etc etc. Hundreds of hours between 4am and 7am over 7 months and it lives and rides brilliantly. Here’s a few pics (the after ones are first !) to prove that anyone can have a go at this !!!
