I've started an alternative solutions thread to deciding the 6 allocations for the whbpc over here
-
-
In light of MCR's view on the UK champs tourney deciding the 6 slots for the WHBPC, I got the list of UK players that expressed interest in playing in the worlds.
Only London, MCR and Cambridge expressed interest.
London filled out 20 forms
Cambridge filled out 10 forms
Manchester filled out 6 formsSo by that it would look like London should have 3 spots, Cambridge 2 spots, MCR 1 spot.
Thoughts?

I'm not keen on ranking by city. I believe this should be the best the uk has to offer, not the best a few different city's have to offer.
We differ on opinion here. I'm not keen on ranking by country. (yet)
first come to what first served for what?
My suggestion was regarding the possibility of a London quali for WHBPC.
This would make the entire process of "expressing interest" futile, because a couple of teams got counted because of luck.
Not really, the 'expressing interest' was to gauge the amount of teams coming from somewhere, what difference does it make if a team that got together in the last month or the next couple months would like to have a shot at playing in the worlds? Even Berlin are offering wildcard spots so does that make 'expressing interest' futile/pointless?
Also, first come first served surely can't really work when whoever posted the thread will get the first place, and then the next few will all be within the space of a few hours, not like there is much time difference in them. ridiculous suggestion.
I think you've totally misunderstood me.
...
I THINK what Mike is saying is instead of using teams that have signed up for the UK champs (some may have no interest or cannot go to the Worlds) we should select from those who actually expressed prior interest and filled out Kev's form.+1

We could always rank by city.
I've requested the list of interested teams from the leagueofbikepolo.com form.*
(*edit) X number of slots could be allocated to cities by that list and let each city sort themselves out.*Gabes, since you're in contact with Morgan would you mind hitting him up as well?

- IRO mark V - Strong, light, very flexible options for set-up (40mm length dropouts, hangers under the top tube for brake cable), solid feeling frame. - Shinscar
- Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta - strong, great geo, not big enough tyre clearance, no rear brake mounts
- Fuji track - cheap & strong
- Cotic Roadrat - A cheap alternative to a semi-compact polo frame akin to the Bruiser/BB, loads of braking choices, gusseted, semi-aggressive geo, strength unknown and is relatively light?!
- Fixie inc. -light but solid, tighter geometry, small turning circle and good balance, caliper brake drills, no v-brake thingys
Forks.
- NS RNS - not too tall, not much rake
- Onza Tuff Guy - 40cm axle to crown, 30mm rake, great geometry and £18.99.

- Brooklyn Machine Works burly, not much rake, Expensive
Cranks.
- Profile Race Cranks durable, beefy
- Miche Youth cranks, lots of crank lengths available, annoying BCD, file the outer ring and use the 36t and you have polo cranks for ~£50
- Sinz BMX cranks - Really good so far comes in lengths 115mm-180mm length square taper and is 110 bcd. And the chainrings come in polo sizes (34T bitches) - Shinscar
Bars.
- Easton EA 30 - Cheap, light and relatively strong
- Tioga R35 or R60
Hubs.
- Goldtec available in 36 and 48, not the cheapest, but pretty damn bombproof. they look rather schexy too. goldtecs are awesome but the bolts are made of cheese and round off easy, replace with stainless 6mm!
- Somax, relatively cheap but awesome hubs that can be custom ordered in 48 for £108 a pair.
- 14 bike co trick hubs - 48h, upgraded goldtecs (and mine were cheaper), had 8 spokes pull out and no damage at all to the hub flange.
Rims.
- Rigida Sputnik - strong, wide for big tyres, come in 48h and very cheap
- Velocity B43 (48 hole) - no braking surface, but very strong, Hassan reckons it's one of the straightest rims he's ever built. Narrow enough for 25 (and under) c width tyres. Expensive.
- Plain and simple deep Vs - Shinscar
- Rigida DP18/DP22. Cheaper than Velocity..
- Sun Rhyno Lite XL - 26", 32h or 36h, the strongest, but £40... cheaper pinned version only £20 on CRC, multiple crashes and mine still run true. Wider even than Chukkas
- Velocity Chukkas - super wide rim, comes in 48, marginally lighter than Sputniks, deep-profile means a stronger polo wheel, some questionable build-quality on the first batches, but all seems sorted now.
Tyres.
- Schwalbe Marathon Plus - strong,a bit expensive, go for price match ♡♡♡♡♡ (5 heart rating) - Shinscar
- Vittoria Randonneur - cheap, pretty thick and come in large sizes, a very good front tyre, grippy and tough
- Thin tires. I've actually been pretty happy with the Gatorskins. Lean and quick.
- Schwalbe CX Comp - Grippy as fuck on the front
- Schwalbe Marathon Dureme HS 410 okay I haven't actually used them but they are basically an upgrade on the Marathon Plus. 5/5 on grip, protection and durability, light for the size, and available in 26x2.0, 700x35 and 700x40
- Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Road Tyres- grippy tyre, that works in all conditions outdoors. Not really suitable if you like to burn rubber. Nice strong side-wall which makes it a bit more suitable than the Conti Dura Skin range. Nice range of colours, too.
- Panaracer RibMo - features the same ultra-resistant strip as Marathon Plus but has more grip and is a rounded tyre allowing for more speed in the corners... the tyre of choice for polo outside of Europe.
- Tioga Skidrow - great tyre for 26ers. Nice and fat and really grippy in all weather especially on turns - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22341
- Fyxation - really nice and grippy in dry, wide, 700, not so good in rain though but still better than thin tyres, bombproof

- Shadow Conspiracy Linear Brake Cable - coated cable for easy cutting and super slidyness
- Oval Aero front brake - mounts on the fork backwards - meaning that the caliper won't get bent everytime the front wheel turns back on the frame. Expensive, a little fussy to set-up, but works very well. Not suitable for tyres over 25c width.
- Odyssey M2 dual-cable lever. (Strong, easy to use, many lever styles, file your cable ends down to stack two in the lever without any fussing.)
**Brake pads.
**- Fibrax cartridge V blocks are a good performance/cost/durability tradeoff. (Chainreaction: 7 quid for holders + 2 pairs of pads.) - Prav
- Aztec refills seem fine - Using them at the moment and will see how long they last. - Prav
Pedals.
Eastern Bikes, CFRP - Just got them, they feel really grippy and a nice concave, deeper than Odyssey but not too deep. Not sure how they would work with straps though with their round holes. - Mike

Just got Ribmo tyres at the shop, I'm trying them out soon, 26x1.75. The tread looks nice, nearly full coverage and more rounded than marathon plus, almost pointy/pyramid like so should give good grip while turning.
We have 700cx37, 26x1.25 and 26x1.75 in at the moment with more 700c on order.Just putting that out there...

Not sure if anyone's caught on to this yet, but a bike shop has opened up on the canal just down the street from Downham. Useful! And it's being run by a forumenger (pistofski).
Isn't that the cooking show warehouse? (rapepaint!)
Also, just up the street from Mitch is my shop where you'll find a poloenger any day of the week... (except sunday)

... Next year, the worlds, euros, etc should be more organised, and those responsible for each should be in better contact with the others, so they can work out a better way to sort out qualifications.
That's what we said last year. And it is kinda passing the buck on to next year's polo players instead of accepting responsibility and sorting it out proper.
I still blame the country alloc. system for this bit of unfairness/make do with what you got. Just by the fact that most people aren't organized enough to do national qualis. It's much easier to just sort your city out.
I agree with both Iain and Gabes, yes Iain is right in what should be asked and yes Gabes is right in saying that people don't seem to be bothered.

My notes, taken on Vidals phone which I didn't know how to operate so a few details may be wrong but here's the jist of tonight's game:
BAD wins the charge and it's a slow pace to start out with, both teams playing very cautiously, bad won the charge and has 2 shots In 1st minute. Still very cautious play from both sides. Bad is playing the double team strategy not allowing the clear passing. Malice is playing very defensively but aidan scores at 3:56. Matt comes out of goal and has Malice's 1st shot on goal but it's blocked by dt. Malice are playing a bit too cautious and Aidan scores at 6:50. Andy puts Maice on the board with a goal at 8:54. dt is released and scores at 10:00 and Aidan scores at 1055 and again at 11:48.
Final for 1st game 5-1 BADAidan wins the ball with the lefty charge taking Iain out. Brendan scores first at 3:01 This one is turning out to be not such a cautious game as the first with neither team having complete possession. Malice are playing 3 out and Brendan scores again at 8:20. Iain puts one in for Malice at 9:04. Aidan scores at 11:00 Brendan at 14:00.
Final for 2nd game 4-1 BADMalice has 1st possession and first shot on goal with a miss. Good defense from malice but dt is released, he takes it up to the crease and Brendan scores at 2:29. Dave is still released with no result yet, but he scores at 4:15. Brendan goes 1 on 1 with Iain in goal and loses, but promptly takes him out and Brendan scores at 6:55. Aidan scores at 7:54 and 8:41.
Final for 3rd game 5-0 BADBoth teams played progressively better as the games went on. BAD just out-did Malice who just couldn't get proper control of the ball or finish on the many breaks they created.
BAD were playing complete coverage, often double teaming any member of Malice with possession completely blocking any chance of a clear pass.Matt is my mvp, creating several breaks with some unorthodox plays and almost always coming up with the ball when it was near. Too bad he can't pass properly or shoot straight!
Broken down by teams who had a player fill out a form it's not much different:
Teams
• London – 10 (+ 3 players with no team listed)
• Cambridge – 6
• MCR – 3 (+2 players with no team listed)
MCR and Cambridge both had 2 'maybe' forms
