At the UK champs, the top 8 will progress to the eliminations. Of these 8, how do you decide the top 6?
4 teams will get knocked out in the semis, of those which 2 make up the 6?
What happens if the teams ranked 7 + 8 end up contesting the final?
Tricky...Usually ranked by performance. Goal difference and such...

The bigger problem stems from the whole 'after-the-fact' announcement. Some things take priority.
Scenario:
Ned plays polo and plays it well.
Ned really wants to play in Berlin, expressed interest and has began organizing his life around it. Including a plane ticket flying in on the 12th.
Ned has something that's been planned for ages the same weekend as the UK champs so Ned didn't express interest and will not be attending.A couple months later, the idea comes up and is quite popular that only the top 6 teams from UK champs will go to Berlin. Ned is fucked by no means of his own.

So the first question should be ... should the UK be sending its best 6 teams to represent at the Worlds? (at the main tourney, others can represent there too...)
If yes, then the UK champs seems the perfect solution in this case.
*If no, *then we need to have a re-think. (or just a think in the first place)

I have a specific issue with lumping all of the UK in one pot. I'm betting London will take at least 5 of those 6 spots. Not really representing the UK is it? What about Edinburgh or Glasgow? No offence to them but they probably won't make top 6 in MCR...
And who even knows if they're interested in going to Berlin?
-
you both kinda sorta changed your minds.
Yea, I guess I've totally changed my mind.
;1287228']... I forgot all about the form on the league of bike polo that teams who were interested in attending filled out.
...
The whole "express interest", then "allocate slots" process could be done ad infinitum on a progressively smaller scale. What was that catchphrase in the '90's? "Think Globally, act locally"

I've kinda changed my mind on my stance of this. 1st of all, I forgot all about the form on the league of bike polo that teams who were interested in attending filled out.
Of the 36 teams in MCR tourney, there are 11 separate cities (19 teams are London-ish). Do all these people know about this discussion? Do they care? Why not divide the 6 slots proportionately, send out an 'express your interest' letter, going by Berlin's interest form, from the LOBP forum, to these cities/teams and let them work out who is going to represent them in Berlin.
Personally, I think going by Berlins form of teams that have expressed interest in the worlds is the right way to go. Not by a tournament that is not related and wasn't related at the close of registration.

So mike, what about bullshit political boundaries like NA, Europe, etc? I like your thinking, about polo being more community based, but if we're looking at UK, European and World championships, then we are all conforming to those boundaries anyway.
NA / Europe isn't so much political (NA not as much as Europe) as geographical (small ocean) and as for the common tournaments, all the Europeans play together much more than North Americans and Europeans playing together. Similar community aspect on a broader scale. NA seems to play more mixed teams in tournaments than Europeans so that strengthens the community aspect even more.
UK champs, similiar thing in that Manchester and Oxford have played London BFF tourneys and we all travel to play in each others cities.
I agree that the terminology points to political boundaries, maybe they should be called the 'This Side Championships' and the 'That Side Championships' and the 'All Sides Championships'. Maybe the 'Pasty English Speaker's Championships'?
