I've got a fairly scruffy early eighties Alan frame I would like to tidy up - but with a pretty light touch.

Would be grateful of advice as to how to clean polish etc without hurting the finish (it's blue).

Also the top tube seems to be a bit oval - which I doubt it should be - can it be compressed back?

Just for info you can get some lovely Plume transfers from H Lloyd...

You could try the London Chroming Company on the Old Kent Road (near Toys r Us).

Expensive, not fantastically friendly, but very good.

I have used them for both car and bike stuff - don't give them anything with threads you don't want messed up though...

Oh, and sorry Hilary, but the Knight rider was JOCK Kershaw (great trackie ex Holdsworth etc). JACK Kershaw, on the other hand was a great singer and author of songs like Diggy Diggy Lo and Louisiana Man ... Apologies again, just my years in ythe peleton!

Anybody buying the Knight I've got Danny Horton's engraved (not panto back then!) black Cinelli 1A stem - not sure if it came off the Knight or one of his Bantels...

I know the pedal threads can be tapped out to English - but does anybody know someone who can do it?

Having reached middle age I have started to relive past glories and built quite a few bikes similar (or exactly the same!) to those I raced - or wish I had raced - in the seventies.

But nobody seems very interested in insuring them - too old but too valuable!

I also don't know how I would get them valued...

Has anybody had any luck with this?

...what has happened to the seatbolt? Presume it was an allen bolt - is the thread still the same? That's a hell of a bolt now!
