I built up a fixed gear from a Cannondale 1FG frame a little while ago, joined the forum and was happy to show my new creation off.
I was extremely impressed that I did not then get a thermonuclear level of flaming due to my fixed gear having (in no particular order) a front (disc) brake, a mountain bike frame, front suspension, Continental Tyres (thank you Hippy...).
Then it got nicked.
Now I have been looking for some time at the usual sources, waiting for that perfect frame to come up for the HHSB build, and what do you know?
Another 1FG frame in L has just come up.
So- do I build Hippo II, "The Return", or do I go for brand spanking new?
I'm thinking 1FG frame, Pace RC31 fork etc etc if anyone knows vintage (i.e. 10 years ago) mountain bikes.

This is something that I wanted to get more involved with a while a go- oddly when my fixed gear got nicked.
I have a friend who can do all the front end design (lead IA, Vodafone amongst others), and my brother can make data do amazing things, but we got stuck without someone to do the middle- ASP etc.
I'd be up for meeting up (in a nice pub) to discuss a few ideas/what I could contribute?

I think the problem may stem from the time that my bro pulled the brake on when the rear wheel was temporarily absent- I levered the pads back out again with a flat bladed screwdriver, but I don't think they have ever gone back in as far as they should.
I might treat them to a bleed just to reset the system, as it were.
Now has anyone in the London area got an Avid bleeding kit that they would be cool with me borrowing?

Tried that- these pistons are not for moving!
I did that which you suggested both with the old pads in, and afterward.
I am beginning to suspect that I will have to bleed the buggers to get the pistons to retract....
Mind you I might be being a bit "rear gunner" with the pressure I am applying- should I just give hem a good shove do you think?

Having a quick look at the Park website that is meant for Dura-Ace or XTR.
If it is Dura-Ace you are after I have a tool that fits the BB if you want to borrow it.
I'm in SE8 if you want to borrow it, or I could stick it in my bag and bring it to work tomorrow- SE1.
Mind you with the weather forecast looking as it is it may well go rusty on the journey in.

The hair that is.
The old lid was/is a medium, and I have always thought that the reason it gave me headaches is because I had to have the straps/band very tight to keep it in place.
But then I might be wrong, and should get a helmet that can move around slightly.
I do not know, hence the question!

My current lid dates from 2002, so it needs replacing.
Plus I hate it and never wear it, so a new one might make me slightly safer.If I wear it of course.
Anyway- the question is this: Size.
I've tried on both a small and a medium Specialized S-Works 2D.
The small one seemingly fits really well- with the adjustment straps/band loose it seems to fit perfectly on my head.
I can nod, shake my head etc and it just sits in place.The Medium moves around with the straps/band loose, but then sits well when they are tightened up.
Now my quandary is this- I have tried both of these on in the shop, on my lunch break.
So I was not exactly exerting myself.Should I get the medium, with a bit of room for head expansion when hot/longer hair (currently sporting a "This is England" haircut), or the small one and keep shaving my head?

They just emailed me- they always use DHL, who quoted £90.
Other options are unavailable it would seem.They are unwilling to dismantle the bike to any degree at all, and so have decided to refund me the cost- and will not give me the option of arranging a courier.

Well I had a look at train prices- £41.80 return, 7 hours travel time.
So that's out.Then I had a look at Parcelforce, who quote £20.99 for a 15 kilo load- which I think is roughly what the bike weighs.
Last time I needed to ship a bike I just went to Evans and asked for a box- so would £25 sound unfair to anyone?
£20.99 to ship, plus £4.01 of duct tape etc is what I was thinking.
As has been pointed out it has ROD brakes (is it the convention to capitalise that?) so the chap who owns it might have a fun time turning the handle bars around- I'm willing to offer them a little more for the faff of working out how to disconnect the ROD brakes.
Obviously I will be sure to ask them to document in exhaustive detail how they managed the black art task of disconnecting them so that I might have a (probably vain) chance of reconnecting them afterward.

Will I be put in the stocks and pelted with rotting vegetables if I turn up on my road bike?
I'm starting at half eight, but our elite peleton comprises of myself (the poster child for beer+fags+sofa life) and a bunch of Kiwi's who are doing it on MTB's as "road bikes are for gayers", so I have no idea when we will make it to Brighton.
In my defense my fixed gear got nicked, and I have not got it's replacement sorted yet.
