We went to an early jubilee style party two roads away on Sunday
We were invited by some friends who lived on the street
We weren't offered food or drink despite there being tables of it
No one other than the friends even said hello
They'd hired in a bouncy castle which our youngest played on for about an hour
One of the residents asked my wife for "a contribution" to the bouncy castle hire
She paid them £5!
If they'd asked me I would have told them to fuck off...
I noticed they were more than happy to allow a councillor who lives in my street to fill her boots!! -

Sounds great! But I've got a house "to do" list that's gonna keep me busy for another year at least...
Did you consider using those ground screw things instead? A former neighbour used them for his outdoor office. I'm thinking about using them for a small area of decking in the middle of the garden. -

Something like this?
Presumably you need holes to allow the grey pipe to run off?
And cut a hole for the black one

Installed in our kitchen for about a week but we couldn't create a hole big enough to make it fit nicely so replaced with smaller Airflow 15 which is great.
Make me an offer if you want it - happy to post -
Ouch! Interior/exterior or both?
We just had someone called Dia paint our skirting boards, halfway up walls and a sash window.
Impressed with his skills (does bit of plastering/masonry work too) and he's very tidy.
I wouldn't say he's particularly cheap but he does have availability at the moment as he's just returned to UK.
He doesn't have a lot of tools though so you'll have to provide a bit of equipment.
Also he's based in Sydenham and doesn't have car so uses buses.
Can send contact details and pix of his work if you want. -
Have you thought about giving up Netflix, the gym and coffee?
(sorry)
Me and my wife were very lucky to buy at the right time (post 2008 crash) in the right area (Peckham). If not I think we'd be in the same position as you.
We've had no help from parents and funded it all ourselves.
My younger siblings have only been able to get a house because they live outside of London and even one of those can only afford to rent. -

Wife was attacked for her Brommie last night (east Dulwich)
She refused to give it up though and the attacker got scared off after she started screaming for help.
Obvs wouldn't recommend doing that.
She's a bit shocked but not hurt. Cops coming round today.
The front mudguard has split where the robber grabbed hold of it.
Where's best to get replacement? It's the silver plastic ones.
Is it a faff to replace?

We used Andmove last summer for a 3 bed pack up service and removal from Peckham to Herne Hill.
It cost us less than £2k - it was only 1 mile away mind.

I dealt with Pavel and it was probably one of the easier parts of the whole nightmare -

Just had our sashes refurbed by Justin who works in Herne Hill area
https://www.elementarydesign.co.uk/
He's really nice and diligent but has long waiting list of around 6 months
worth waiting for IMO
It was cheaper to get them refurbed than replaced and they are much quieter, and now all open and shut too! -

^^Came close to buying property in Dulwich Estates-run area a few times which is similar to listed properties.
Looked into it a fair bit and it did limit what we wanted to do eg: no first floor extensions only ground floor to a max of 4m or so. Also limits on window and door types even to garages. And no loft conversions at all.
There should be guidance on what's permitted. Could also contact the local planning officer for a chat/email. -

Thinking of creating a planter like this to give some extra height to some hedging we're going to get.
Our front wall is almost identical to that in the picture.
What sleepers would be best and how should I fix them in?
Currently our front garden is gravel. And @andyp thanks for Coolings recommendation: there's loads of plants and the staff are v helpful.
Right don't hate me, but I'm putting down a SMALL bit of evilfakegrass.
Doing it myself as on a budget and I'm struggling with the base prep.
Can anyone like @ColinTheBald @RagnarHairybreeks give some advice?
I've got some MOT and Sharp Sand I've still got to put down.
The wife would like it level with the top of the wonky inherited paving but that would make it too high up on the fence side. Guess I could slope it down slightly towards the fence?
The alternative is putting it under the lip of the paving.
Also how do I deal with the edge by the fence? It isn't totally straight either.
Got some long wood strips (shown) I could fix onto stakes and fix the evilfakegrass onto that?
And in between the edge and the fence put some more MOT down there to prevent rot?
(There is plenty of real grass, plants and flowers in the rest of the garden)
