Cool by me. If we're going to play semantics here then from your quote above:
- A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history
That means fixed/single-speed cyclists are a race because they have a common history, that of riding fixed wheel or single-speed bicycles...
And that in turn means that you're slating your bro/bruv/cuz.
Lighten up for fuck's sake.
What a total cunt.

One winter trainer / Audax bike
One touring bike
One single speed mbt

Anyone use Specialized All Condition Pro?
I have the 26" version on my SS, run them at 105psi but they do cut up pretty easily but not many flats as long as you keep the pressure high.I was going to get a pair for my MTB, but it doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement from you. Do you mean that they wear out quickly and that you get quite a few punctures? At the moment I've got armadillos, so I can't remember the last time I had a puncture.

ah it's hard. in theory i totally agree with trying to stay calm but i can't always manage it. i'm a very easy going guy most of the time but when i'm cycling in the centre of town i have to say i lose my rag on a fairly regular basis. i probably yell at someone most days. i just get incandescent with rage. .
Seriously, this isn't good. I used to be a courier years ago, but gave up as the stress was making act in a similar way. You don't want to spend every day being angry, it's not worth it.
-
If you hurl abuse at them they won't think about the fact that they are wrong - they will just think the cyclist is a wanker. Yep you have to give up the satisfaction of yelling at them if you want them to remember for the next time, but that's the deal. Anger will resolve nothing, however satisfying it may feel in the heat of an argument.
If people were all just that little bit nicer to each other instead of grabbing the first opportunity to lose their temper then maybe peds would have more consideration in turn and not make the mistake in the first place.
More importantly, they won't just the think "the cyclist is a wanker", maybe he is? They may also think "cyclists are wankers" whereas a lot of us try and control our anger, and expect similar from others be they pedestrians, taxi drivers, other cyclists or whoever.

And lots of coverage on the BBC sport website including this video with Victoria Pendleton, where she's told "you're not like other track cyclists, you're pretty". The sexist doing the interview is, I think, one of those rowing gold medalists. Most over-rated sportsmen ever.

pipwish
606 Abus Granit decoder
D locks are usually picked, and not cut.I don't think it is a good idea to post links such as this...
Well I changed the link, but obviously everyone else will have to edit their posts. The point I was making was that even the well respected Abus Granit, though not the most recent models to my knowledge, can be picked. And that though you do get the odd junkie opportunist, you also get professional bike thieves who will pick d-locks (happened to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago) and cut through chain locks with hydraulic cutters.
I feel its best to be aware of everything that the thieves are, so you can try and counter-act it. I've got an Abus myself which I always lock through wheel and frame, I hope this is the best I can do to avoid losing my bike at the current time. But if anyone knows better ... -

minh ai oh mate, thats so shitty. really sorry for emma. i'll keep my eyes open.
just for the record, i watched a programme that convinced me that plastic coated d-locks, like the kryptonite ones are the hardest to get through. even those really big chain locks (i don't know what they're called) can be cut in a second with the right equipment. Apparently the only way to get through a d-lock is by picking the plastic off and spraying it with some chemical (i forget what its called) to make the metal brittle before smashing it apart. just getting the plastic off takes ages so i think a couple of these are the best deterrent.
You can easily obtain keys which will open all the d-locks with the "round keyhole". Chains can be cut in seconds by pneumatic bolt cutters.

It's too small for you, and it's stolen.
