Sorry, Hobo, for hijacking this thread but I am in the nursery still and really want to get this out- I know its Glasgow but someone told me there are folks from there here. My daughter's bike was stolen from the West End area of Glasgow last night it's an old 1961 Lincoln Imp frame built up by me with a black Brooks B17, gold bartape, gold chain, goldfinger brake levers, original chainring 52t and a flip flop hub with a 21t freewheel and 18t(or maybe 16t fixed cog) It's pretty distinctive- the picture is not of her bike obviously- she doesn't have one would you believe, but the frame is exactly like the one in the pic, just with all the additions above and no mudguards. Please don't buy it if you se it for sale or are offered it- there are unlikely to be two bikes like this in Glasgow. Just tell me via this thread and I'll tell her.
Thanks

I ride through Peckham to and from work every day and I've thought about commenting before on here about how much it feels like riding around in Mad Max! Laws don't apply there and cars, buses and people just do whatever they want. Sign me up for an unofficial SE Justice League!
Just what bits of Peckham are you riding through? Not any that I recognise. Like I said before, I've lived and worked in Peckham, Walworth, Camberwell area for many years now- and I teach in a school on a tower block estate in North Peckham. Of course there are areas where I wouldn't hang around on my own after midnight, it's the inner city after all, and of course there are scallys around who swagger about and act tough. And like any other inner city area there are bad things that happen. But I just don't recognise the clockwork orange type scenario you describe-. Believe me, there are plenty of great people, and good things going on in the area. And I'm not naive- I've worked as a detached youth worker on one of the toughest council estates in London in the past so I have no illusions about what some nasty individuals are capable of. But I'd still rather live in South East London than Hampstead. You get a better class of people here.

You just have to hold the lane on Tower- it's to narrow to do anything else safely and anyway northbound there is a huge ridge of road that sticks up about a foot or so from the kerb. What's all that about?
