Personal choice, but I wear one all the time. I look a tit but I have properly stacked and have landed on my head without a helmet and it wasn't fun. I gaze enviously at the cool kids at the lights without helmets, but I do ride reasonably assertively, so figure that law of averages mean that coming off is inevitable. But it never fails to amaze me at the number of commuters wearing a helmet so far back on their head that if they come off, their forehead will do the work, protecting their lovely helmet....

it's like the retarded love-child of a unicycle and a shopping trolley...
my favourite quote:
*How do I stop if there is no brake?
We have experimented with having a brake and we found that it works better without one. To stop in an emergency then simply jump off and grab the handle or let it fall on the floor.* -
I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these to make you all jealous ... http://www.magicwheel.co.uk/
£80!

@fc9k: what do you want to DO with the camera - ie. what type of pics do you want to take?
If you're looking for an all-round general purpose entry level SLR, you can pick up an new Nikon d40x on ebay for around £300 inc 18-55 lens. The equivalent canon is the 400d. Buy something with the lens included, it's just a complete hassle buying separate lenses at that level.

dude, you're posting on a singlespeed/fixed gear forum, about the fact that the polish on your aluminium lugs for your (geared) purdy carbon road bike isn't quite to your satisfaction? No disrespect, but when the gods (chris, tynan, rpm, asm etc) find out...
quick, edit the post and ask about polishing a steel tracknut instead...:-)

nap, I took it in there to have the headset cups taken out before it went over to Armourtex. Vaz was supposed to paint it orange, but put some sort of pink pearlescent hue into the paint - * *http://www.londonfgss.com/thread4896.html#post148149 it looked ferking weird.
Just got it back (in 3 days - amazing) in a very sweet RAL 5024 blue... :-)

Maris Vas for accidentally painting my bike pink. Oh, and Condor, for properly kicking my frame over when it was in the shop and telling me it was my fault for putting it there. Thing was, I was eyeing up a titanium bike at the time and momentarily considering parting with £1700. Suddenly I changed my mind....

ah, sorry for the duplication. but, having said that, we see countless cases of crappy laws being passed under one excuse, but they are so poorly written that they end up getting hijacked and used for something entirely different. See the case of the 3 year old girl in Poole, being placed under surveillance for 2 weeks to see if she was elligible for a school place.
So the important thing is not what is their intent, but what does the actual (revised / new) legislation say?

...not mine I should add.
walking along borough high street today at around 2pm-ish. Two ne'er-do-wells in baseball caps pass me, stepping on to their bikes. One riding a shiny new red brompton. less than two seconds pass whilst i process the event, and realise that a kid like that on a bike like that means it's probably stolen. I look over to see 2 halfords cable locks cleanly cut (another two seconds). I turn and sprint towards them but they're on the road and through the lights and away. there were maybe 50 people stood around at the various cash machines and entrance to borough market, no-one said a thing.
So... NEVER rely on a cable lock (especially a crap one from halfords - 20mm thick including plastic outer, but only <5mm of actual braided cable) or the fact that your bike is in full view of the public, and sorry to the owners of the two bikes that I wasn't 5 seconds quicker off the mark, as i'd have knocked the guy off at least one of the bikes and out had I caught him.
I'm off to buy (yet) another lock...
