Old time courier life (90s):
A) Get up, bathe, or sort of bathe,
B) Call in by radio, ask for work,
C) If there's jobs on, rush like hell for the 1st one, as its gonna be a good day
D) If there's nothing, take your time rolling in, call empty from central london,
E) Get jobs, cycle all day, if its raining all day, pray its busy, or you'll be frozen
F) Lunch-time is often quiet, gather in Soho Square or Golden Square
G) All the smoke makes you think of Bob marley :))
H) Afternoon session is busiest coming to the end if the day, hopefully you earned enough
I) Last job done, start for home, slaughter all wannabees on their pricey steeds when chellenged
J) If you got a booty call, head from home to friends house, sleep over
K) Get into work next day with dead battery, swap at office, then head outNormally, expect punctures several times a week, running into peds just as often, replacing bike or forks after major prangs, and some time off when the claret flows freely from an open leg.
All that aside, I've never ever had a better job, or one that was more fun. I'll always miss it, even though the money was never great. Also, scored alot too, as fit females like muscular legs in bike shorts, and the "I don't care" attitude to life.
Now I make enough money to support my kids, but there's no excitement in my job, no adrenalin rush from HAVING to deliver a job with 3 minutes left, and you've got 6 traffic-lights to go through, and 2 filghts of stairs. Oh yeah, and you get to race, all the time - against mopeds, other cyclists, taxis (fukem) and anybody that your mood takes.

Shinscar the sleuth, with a probably unbeatably priced single speed road bike. The "SE Bikes" look like they might be chinese made. With the cheap one being plain guage and 27lbs in weight, its probably not going to be at the top of Xmas lists. The slightly more expensive one at least has the decency to be cro-mo. And that one weighs 21lbs. Not bad. A good find actually - I've lived in London 24yrs, and I'd never heard of the Triton cycle shop.

I'm with skoota. Thats a mature view. I'm older now, and I'd never spit at anyone, but a bus driver squashed against another bus with his bus and I lost it. The inside of my right forearm shows how easily I broke his window, and how many times I punched through it. Its not the right response, but I was scared then, because I felt that the fool had close to ended my life.
Hippy, when on a bike, I just nod acknowledgement of curteous drivers. They are looking at me anyway, so they get it.
I'll never understand taxi drivers attitudes towards cyclists though. Do bicycles emit hazardous radioactive waste or something? I don't get it. -
Cheers asm, I forgot a few though. Maybe someone will comment on any of these bikes that they've either tried out or owned? A few more added:
Mosquito Bikes - http://www.mosquito-bikes.co.uk/htdocs/fixie.php?name=bikes
FIXIE Inc Peace Maker £415 [MrSmith has shown me that this is frame only price - expensive!]
FIXIE Inc Black Jack £595 [ditto]On-One - http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Road_bikes.html
Pompino £499.95I like the look and the price point of the FIXIE Inc Peace Maker, the Charge Plug, and the Giant Bowery.

nimhbus, my bike was stolen, a Klein (already 2nd hand) that I'd been working on. So since I'm always broke, I was looking at Ebay for a cheap-ish replacement. It ocurred to me that if I had £350 or more spare, I could get myself one off the peg. But I've got kids, and bills, and I maxed my card, so even the £350 isn't there. But, since I'd done the searching, I just thought I'd share it, since maybe somebosy else might be in the same boat?

Anyone too lazy to wait patiently for a suitable bike/frame to appear on Ebay, then build up your own bike? If so, here are the latest off-the-pegs from the shops: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread9085.html

I tried to restrain myself, but it hasn't worked. Is it me, or is his gun practically the size of his whole thigh?! Let the police carry 0.11 bore Derringers, that way if they ever shoot us it only stings, instead of later claiming on a witness stand that they we going by specific (sic) "intelligence". To wit, I draw your attention to Tweedledee and Tweedledum in the photo. It just goes to show, you should never do it with your sister.....or are the police already using real clones? Do they share the same brain then?

Stalking is a compliment. You must surely be the most beautiful creature on earth. But how was this about you? I thought it was about http://www.flickr.com/photos/66296756@N00/2278878881/in/photostream/
bicycle workshop, 27 all saints road, w11. Its the best bike shop I've ever known. A lady ran the place when I was last there, and the quality of work was always the highest.
