hi. i'm building up a vintage mercian frame. i need the seatpost bolt... but it's an old imperial measurement (a bit bigger than an m6). anyone else have this problem? anyone got a spare going? an incredibly nice/helpful guy at condor told me that i'd have a really hard time finding the bolt, but it will be out there. he gave me an m6 seatpost bolt (for free...) and suggested that i strip the threading by forcing it through, but that doesn't sound like the best option to me. suggestions?

for super pro baked enamel resprays, go to argos or mercian. or you can go with an armourtex powdercoat job though -- cheaper, quicker and more convenient. if you're on a really lean budget, you can try to spray it yourself. search the forum for instructions.
the colour shouldn't affect the price, unless you want something fancy like metallic or pearlecsent.

list of what you need:
drive train:
- bottom bracket
- crank arms
- pedals
- chain ring
- cog
- chain
- front and rear hubs
- front and rear rims
- spokes
- tyres
steering
- headset
- stem
- handelbars
sittin'
- saddle
- seatpost
... and that's about it. simple, no? and in fairness, hubjub is a great shop but if it's your first build (or you're in any way on a budget), it's maybe not your first port of call.

I've been using my fug chain for the last year....always carry it around my waist....and i only weigh ten stone!!!
sure you've not got it too loose and hanging round yer arse making it seem heavier?
Oh...and i use the fug mini too....:)how would you shorten it? that was part of the problem, but the lock wouldn't fit mid-way through the links of the chain, and i didn't fancy testing how hardcore the chain was with a hacksaw.
i think i'll stick with the abus lock -- it seems pretty strong -- and mini d lock.

today i rode into town to buy chunky locks for my new baby. i was thinking "get the most hardcore lock you can get, ted."
ended up with a kryptonite fahgettaboutit mini d-lock (for the front wheel) and a fahgettaboutit chain with teensie d-lock (for frame and backwheel).
chucked the new locks around my waist, got about 3/4 of the way home and thought, "this is f*cking ridiculous!!! i can't be doing this." i kept the d-lock but ended up taking the chain back and got an abus city chain x-plus instead. still damn heavy, but about half the weight of the fahgettaboutit.
does anyone actually use a fahgettaboutit chain? who the hell can carry that much weight on them? together, the two locks weigh about three times what my bike does...
